The Xiaomi 17T is the larger-screen option with a 6.59-inch 120Hz AMOLED display, a 6,500mAh typical battery and a 50MP periscope telephoto camera. Xiaomi positions the Xiaomi 17 as a flagship in the 17 Series, which it associates with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 platform and HyperOS 3. But there is no verified, same-country, same-date price pair here to support a universal claim about which phone costs more or by how much. Compare local prices for the same storage tier, tax basis and active promotions before deciding whether the difference is worth it.
What separates the Xiaomi 17 and Xiaomi 17T?
The clearest documented distinction is the Xiaomi 17T’s stated hardware: its global specification page lists a MediaTek Dimensity 8500-Ultra processor, a 6.59-inch 120Hz AMOLED screen, a 6,500mAh typical battery and three rear cameras, including a periscope telephoto lens. Xiaomi’s corporate material identifies the Xiaomi 17 as part of the Xiaomi 17 Series and associates the series with Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and HyperOS 3. These are manufacturer specifications and platform descriptions, not independent performance results.

Which differences matter in everyday use?
Performance and software
The Xiaomi 17 Series is associated in Xiaomi corporate material with Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and HyperOS 3, while the Xiaomi 17T specification page names the Dimensity 8500-Ultra and HyperOS 3. That establishes different platforms, not a reliable ranking of speed, gaming performance or battery efficiency. The available material includes no independent, comparable benchmark results, so choose based on the exact device’s features and credible testing for your use rather than treating chip names as a measured verdict.
Screen size and handling
The 17T’s 6.59-inch display gives it a substantial viewing area, and its listed body weight is 200g. If pocketability or one-handed use matters, compare the dimensions and weight on the regional Xiaomi 17 page for the model sold where you live; the UK specification is not a universal substitute.

Telephoto photography
The 17T has a clearly specified 50MP periscope telephoto camera with OIS and 115mm-equivalent focal length. Xiaomi describes 5x optical zoom; its “up to 120x AI Ultra Zoom” figure refers to a different, AI-assisted zoom range, not 120x optical magnification. The 17T’s other rear cameras are a 50MP OIS main camera and a 12MP ultra-wide. Megapixel counts and zoom labels do not establish real-world image quality, and no controlled image comparison is available here.

It is not a claim of an industry-wide first. See Xiaomi’s 17T product page.

Battery, charging and included items
The 17T’s 6,500mAh figure is a typical capacity specified by Xiaomi, not a promise of a particular runtime. Its 67W HyperCharge rating is likewise a manufacturer specification; Xiaomi notes that compatible hardware and conditions affect results. A power adapter is not in the listed package, while a protective case is listed. Package contents can vary by region, so check the box contents for the local version before buying an adapter or case. Xiaomi recommends a compatible Xiaomi 67W adapter or above; it also lists support for up to 50W PPS.
How to compare the price difference fairly
There is no established universal Xiaomi 17-versus-17T price gap. Xiaomi’s Japan launch page listed the 17T 12GB+256GB at ¥84,980 before tax in 2026. That is a market- and configuration-specific launch reference, not a current global price or a direct comparison with the Xiaomi 17. The same page’s launch offers ran from 28 May to 21 July 2026, so those promotions have ended. See Xiaomi Japan’s 17T launch page.

For a useful comparison, record both phones’ current prices from the same country and buying channel, then check that storage, tax treatment and promotion status match. Do not subtract a pre-tax launch price from a tax-inclusive retailer price or compare different storage capacities as if they were equivalent.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →- Match the configuration: compare the same storage tier where available, and confirm the exact regional model.
- Use the same price basis: include tax consistently and distinguish an ordinary selling price from a limited-time offer or trade-in discount.
- Check the seller and local support: confirm stock, warranty terms and network compatibility for the version being sold.
- Calculate the live gap: subtract the Xiaomi 17T’s current comparable price from the Xiaomi 17’s current comparable price, or vice versa, and judge that difference against the features you will use.
Which one should you choose?
- Choose the Xiaomi 17T if its large 120Hz screen, specified periscope telephoto camera, 6,500mAh typical battery or available 12GB memory configurations suit your priorities—and its local price makes sense against the Xiaomi 17.
- Consider the Xiaomi 17 if the flagship positioning and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 platform associated with the 17 Series are important to you. Verify the precise Xiaomi 17 configuration and price in your market rather than assuming all regional models match the UK listing.
- Wait or compare further if the price gap is based on mismatched storage, expired promotions or different tax treatment. A fair decision needs current local prices for comparable variants.
The 17T also carries Xiaomi’s stated IP68 rating under specified laboratory conditions. Xiaomi cautions that resistance can deteriorate and does not guarantee protection outside those conditions; treat the rating as a defined test claim, not assurance against every exposure.
