Xfinity Wi-Fi Profile: What to Know About Secure Hotspot Setup

Install the Xfinity hotspot profile through the app’s WiFi hotspots controls, or follow the device-specific route for your account and operating system.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For most eligible Xfinity customers, the hotspot profile is installed through the Xfinity app—not downloaded as a file. Sign in with a Primary, Manager, or Member Xfinity ID, then open WiFi > WiFi hotspots > Connect automatically > Auto-connect now and follow the prompts. The available steps depend on your device, operating system, and whether you have Xfinity Internet or Xfinity Mobile.

Install the secure profile in the Xfinity app

  1. Open the Xfinity app and sign in with a Primary, Manager, or Member Xfinity ID. Those account roles can access the WiFi tab, according to Xfinity’s app instructions.
  2. Tap WiFi, then WiFi hotspots.
  3. Choose Connect automatically, then tap Auto-connect now.
  4. Follow the on-screen prompts to install the secure profile and finish setup.

The profile enables your device to connect automatically to supported secure Xfinity hotspots when one is in range. It is not normally a file you locate in phone storage. Xfinity describes this app-based setup in its secure auto-connect guide.

Choose the route for your device and account

Device or account What to do
iPhone or iPad in the usual eligible-customer case Use the Xfinity app’s WiFi hotspots and Secure Auto-Connect flow. For certain Xfinity Mobile customers using an iOS device that is not on Xfinity Mobile, or who do not have Xfinity Internet, Xfinity documents a separate profile download at secureprofile.wifi.connected.xfinity.com. That site is a specific exception, not the default route for everyone. See Xfinity’s eligibility and setup details.
iOS 17.1 or newer on Xfinity Mobile Xfinity says these devices automatically connect to secure hotspots. Xfinity Mobile customers with an iPhone X or older may instead need to select the Xfinity Mobile SSID and sign in through the pop-up. See Xfinity’s guide.
Android 11 or newer Xfinity Internet-only customers can use the Xfinity app flow. Xfinity Mobile customers on Android 11 or newer are described as automatically connecting to secure hotspots. See Xfinity’s Android instructions.
Android 10 or older Secure hotspot auto-connect through this path is not supported. Xfinity Mobile customers may manually select the Xfinity Mobile SSID and sign in; other situations described by Xfinity should use the open xfinitywifi network. See Xfinity’s Android instructions.

Eligibility and the app options can change. If WiFi hotspots or Connect automatically does not appear, check that you are signed in with an eligible Xfinity ID, and confirm that your customer type and operating-system version support the feature. Xfinity also notes that the secure auto-connect option is not supported in the app on Xfinity Mobile devices; use the device-specific instructions rather than assuming the app flow applies to every mobile account.

When profile installation fails

  • iPhone or iPad: If the Xfinity WiFi Hotspots app is installed, remove it and retry the profile flow in the Xfinity app. Xfinity lists the older app as a possible cause of installation errors.
  • Android permission error: Allow the Xfinity app’s WiFi-control permission in your device settings, then return to the app and complete installation. Menu names vary by Android version.
  • No secure auto-connect option: Check your Xfinity ID role, account type, and OS version against the device table above. In particular, Android 10 and older cannot use this secure auto-connect path.

These fixes and eligibility limits are covered in Xfinity’s troubleshooting instructions.

If you cannot install the secure profile

You can connect to the open xfinitywifi network from your device’s WiFi settings and complete sign-in in a browser. This is a fallback, not the same network as the secure XFINITY or Xfinity Mobile hotspot. Xfinity says the secure connection encrypts traffic between your device and the hotspot and uses a certificate to validate a genuine Xfinity hotspot. For the open hotspot, Xfinity describes 128-bit encryption at sign-in, but advises users to favor HTTPS and pay attention to certificate warnings. See Xfinity’s explanation of hotspot security.

Need your home Wi-Fi name or password instead?

The hotspot profile does not contain your home Wi-Fi password. To view the home network name and password, open the Xfinity app and go to WiFi > WiFi Details. This is a separate task from installing a public-hotspot profile. See Xfinity’s home WiFi details instructions.
