On a Gateway, it falls under Xfinity’s category for a device connecting to Xfinity systems; on an Xfinity Camera, it means factory mode. Identify the device first, then follow the matching steps below.
First, identify which Xfinity device is blinking
Check the product label or model, or look at the equipment list in the Xfinity app. Xfinity’s Gateway and Camera guides describe different light meanings, and they do not establish one universal meaning for every Xfinity product. If your device is neither a Gateway nor a Camera, use the support guide for that specific model rather than assuming the instructions below apply.

If the blinking green light is on an Xfinity Gateway
Xfinity’s Gateway light guide does not list blinking green as a separate fault code. It groups color combinations other than the patterns it specifically names under “connecting to Xfinity systems.” The same guide says steady white—or white with a purple tint after activation—means the Gateway is operational; steady red means no internet connection; and blinking blue means WPS mode. It recommends allowing about 15 minutes for the connection cycle. If connection issues continue after that, contact Xfinity Support.

- Connect the coax cable from the wall outlet to the Gateway and connect the Gateway to power.
- Wait for the lights to turn on and stop blinking before continuing.
- Open the Xfinity app, sign in, and follow its activation steps.
- If activation does not work, unplug the Gateway for 30 seconds, reconnect it, check that the cables are secure, and follow the app’s instructions again.
These are Xfinity’s setup steps for new customers; the 30-second unplug is an activation troubleshooting step, not the one-minute manual restart procedure described for an established connection. See Xfinity’s Gateway activation guide.

For a Gateway that was already working
- Check that the coax connection is finger-tight at the Gateway.
- If you rent a Gateway, run the Xfinity app’s full network test. It can check for area outages, internet speed to the Gateway, and connection strength for devices.
- If you choose a manual restart, unplug the Gateway’s power cable, wait one minute, then plug it back in. An app restart can take up to 12 minutes.
- Allow the Gateway to reconnect. If connection problems remain, check the app or contact Xfinity Support.
Xfinity recommends running the full network test before restarting. Its network guidance is at Managing and optimizing your WiFi network, and restart instructions are at How to restart your Xfinity Gateway.

Xfinity identifies a blinking green Camera light as factory mode and advises restarting the camera. If the light continues afterward, or your camera shows a pattern not covered by the guide, contact Xfinity. Do not use the Gateway connection-cycle diagnosis for a camera. What not to assume
- A blinking green Gateway light is not, by itself, proof of a failed modem, a specific upstream signal problem, or WPS pairing.
- Do not replace the Gateway before checking the device type, setup stage, cable connection, and app diagnostics or asking Xfinity for help.
- A WiFi extender is intended to extend coverage around the home; Xfinity’s cited guidance does not describe one as a fix for a Gateway stuck connecting to its systems.
