Yes—but “one library” means one interface, not one store or ownership system. Microsoft’s Xbox PC app can show supported, installed games from Xbox and PC Game Pass alongside games installed through third-party storefronts. Steam and Epic Games Store support were identified in launch coverage, while Microsoft’s own wording refers more generally to “other PC storefronts.” Your Steam games remain Steam purchases, and the original launcher or account services may still be required.
What Microsoft changed
The Xbox app traditionally handled Xbox PC games, PC Game Pass downloads, Xbox social features and, where available, cloud gaming. Microsoft’s aggregated gaming library adds a discovery and launch layer for games installed through several PC storefronts.

Microsoft announced the feature on June 23, 2025, first for Xbox Insiders in the PC Gaming Preview. Supported installations can appear automatically in My Library and the Most Recent sidebar. Microsoft later positioned the experience for Windows PCs, handhelds and the Xbox full-screen experience.

Does the Xbox PC app really support Steam?
It can surface and launch supported installed Steam games alongside Xbox and Game Pass titles. Contemporary rollout coverage identified Steam and Epic Games Store among the integrations, although Microsoft’s official announcement used the broader phrase “other leading PC storefronts.” That means support can vary by app version, title and rollout status; it is not a promise that every Steam game will appear.
The app does not import your entire Steam account as an Xbox library. A game generally needs to be installed locally for the aggregated view to detect it. A Steam purchase remains a Steam entitlement, and the Xbox app does not sell it, transfer it to Microsoft, or turn it into a Game Pass title.
When you select a Steam game, the Xbox app is the front end. Steam’s account authentication, DRM, updates, cloud-save behavior, overlays and game-specific services remain under Steam’s control. Do not assume the Xbox app bypasses Steam or makes the Steam client unnecessary.

Steam and Game Pass are not the same kind of library entry
| Aspect | Xbox/Game Pass title | Steam or other storefront title |
|---|---|---|
| How it is found | Xbox catalog, subscription or Microsoft purchase | Usually detected as an installed game from a supported store |
| Where ownership resides | Xbox/Microsoft account and applicable subscription | Original storefront account, such as Steam |
| Installation and updates | Xbox services and Gaming Services | Original launcher generally remains responsible |
| Achievements and saves | Xbox features where that title supports them | Original store’s achievements and saves; no universal Xbox synchronization |
| Game Pass eligibility | Can depend on the current catalog and subscription | Does not become a Game Pass game |
Microsoft describes Game Pass downloads, cloud gaming, achievements and saves separately from its description of installed games from other PC storefronts. Details of the current app are on the official Xbox PC app page.
How to find your games in the Xbox app
- Install or update the Xbox app for Windows.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account you use for Xbox or PC Game Pass.
- Install the relevant third-party launcher, such as Steam, and sign in there.
- Install a game through that storefront. Detection is aimed at supported installed games, not a guaranteed list of every title you own.
- Open the Xbox app and select My Library, or choose a title from Most Recent.
- Select the game. The original storefront may open or handle required services during launch.
Hide a storefront you do not want listed
Microsoft documents this path: select your profile picture, open Settings, choose Library & Extensions, then select Hide for the storefront. This removes that storefront’s entries from the Xbox view without uninstalling the games.

Supported storefronts and availability
Microsoft officially named Xbox, Game Pass, Battle.net and “other leading PC storefronts” in its announcement. Launch coverage specifically reported Steam and Epic Games Store. The current product page says the app provides access to installed games from “other PC storefronts” but does not publish a permanent, exhaustive compatibility list.
Microsoft has said it will continue adding storefront support, so availability can change with app releases, device type, region and rollout stage. Treat “supported installed games” as the reliable promise rather than “every game from every store.”
Windows requirements and handheld context
- Windows 10 or Windows 11, version 22H2 or newer.
- At least 150 MB of storage for the Xbox app itself.
- Minimum display resolution of 720p.
- Game-specific CPU, GPU, memory, storage, operating-system, anti-cheat and launcher requirements still apply.
- Windows S mode may need to be disabled or exited to play games through the app.
Microsoft designed the aggregated experience with Windows handhelds and Xbox full-screen mode in mind. That does not make every handheld identical: performance, resolution, button mapping, manufacturer software and launcher behavior vary by device. The app’s minimum requirements also do not guarantee that a particular game will run.

What “one library” does not mean
| Capability | Xbox app aggregation |
|---|---|
| Show supported installed Steam games | Yes |
| Show Xbox and Game Pass games | Yes |
| Display every game owned but not installed | No guarantee |
| Buy a Steam game | No; use Steam |
| Transfer Steam ownership to Xbox | No |
| Remove the need for Steam or another launcher | Not generally |
| Merge achievements, licenses or saves across stores | No universal system |
| Guarantee that every supported-store game appears or launches | No |
| Replace all storefronts and their update tools | No |
This distinction matters most for large Steam libraries. Someone with hundreds of Steam purchases but only a few installed games should not expect the Xbox app to present all of them as ready-to-launch entries.

If an installed Steam game does not appear
The following is practical troubleshooting, not a guaranteed Microsoft repair procedure:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →- Launch the game directly from Steam to confirm that its files and account still work.
- Update both the Xbox app and the relevant storefront client.
- Close and restart both apps, then reboot Windows if the library remains stale.
- Check Settings → Library & Extensions and make sure the storefront has not been hidden.
- Consider whether the title uses an unusual executable, secondary launcher, inaccessible library path or a different Windows account.
- Use the original storefront directly if detection remains unreliable. Reinstalling a large game should be a later step, after confirming that the storefront still recognizes its existing files.
If the game appears but will not start
Aggregation does not remove dependencies. Check the original launcher login, DRM, anti-cheat service, launch parameters, administrator permissions and any required controller or peripheral. Repair or update the game through its own storefront rather than assuming the Xbox app owns its maintenance.

If a Game Pass game disappears
Check whether the title left the catalog, your subscription changed or expired, the installed edition came from another storefront, Gaming Services needs an update, or the title is unavailable in your region. The aggregated view does not override Game Pass entitlements.
If the same game appears twice
Separate Steam and Xbox/Microsoft Store editions can be different products. They may use different ownership records, saves, achievements and launch behavior even when the game name is identical.
Xbox app vs. Steam, Playnite and other launchers
| Launcher | Best fit | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Xbox PC app | Game Pass users, Windows-native setup, controller-first browsing and a quick view of installed games | Installed-game focus, changing storefront support and continued dependence on original launchers |
| Steam | Steam purchases, Workshop, Steam achievements, cloud saves, forums and storefront management | Does not provide a native unified view of Xbox/Game Pass titles |
| Playnite | Custom metadata, themes, filters, extensions, emulators and broad multi-launcher aggregation | Third-party setup and maintenance can require more configuration |
| GOG GALAXY | Users invested in GOG and supported account connections | Integration depth varies by connected service |
| Epic Games Store or Battle.net | Games whose ownership, updates or online services are tied to those stores | The Xbox app can be an entry point but cannot replace their account and service layers |
Is the Xbox app worth using as your main launcher?
Use it as a convenient front door if you play on Windows, use Game Pass, keep games installed across several supported stores, or want a controller-friendly interface on a handheld. Keep Steam, Epic, Battle.net and other original clients installed because they still control ownership, updates and many game services.
Choose Steam directly when Steam-specific features matter most. Choose Playnite when you need a complete, highly customizable database spanning more launchers, emulators and nonstandard applications. The Xbox app’s advantage is Microsoft and Windows integration—not a universal replacement for every PC gaming platform.
