Which plan fits your device?
PC only: PC Game Pass
PC Game Pass is Xbox’s dedicated PC-only tier. It advertises 300+ PC games, day-one PC releases, and EA Play. If you do not need console access, start by comparing this plan with the cross-device tiers only if one of their additional benefits matters to you.
#1 Best Overall
- MODERNIZED DESIGN — Experience the modernized design of the XBOX Wireless Controller with sculpted surfaces and updated geometry that enhances comfort and control during long gaming sessions.

- BUILT-IN AUDIO SUPPORT — Plug in compatible headsets using the 3.5mm audio jack for direct voice chat and immersive in-game sound.
Console only: Essential, Premium, or Ultimate
Essential is the lowest-priced listed console-oriented tier and includes online console multiplayer. Premium and Ultimate also include online console multiplayer, with larger advertised libraries and additional release or membership benefits. Choose between them based on whether a broader catalog or day-one access is worth the higher monthly price to you.
Both PC and console: compare cross-device plans
Essential, Premium, and Ultimate are presented as cross-device plans. Match the plan to the platforms supported by the games you want: cross-device access does not mean every game in the catalog runs on every device.

It introduces powerful new features such as gyro settings, stick curve adjustments, and button-to-mouse mapping, giving you deeper customization and more control than ever before.
How release timing changes the choice
- Day-one releases: Ultimate includes new games on day one. PC Game Pass advertises day-one releases on PC.
- Some Xbox-published games later: Premium adds select new Xbox-published games within 12 months. That timing is not a promise about every publisher’s releases.
- No day-one promise: Essential does not include day-one new releases. For any plan, look up a specific title in the live library before subscribing.
What the catalog counts do—and do not—tell you
Xbox advertises 50+ games for Essential, 200+ for Premium, 500+ for Ultimate, and 300+ PC games for PC Game Pass on its US pages. These counts describe the scale Xbox claims for each plan, not a stable list or an assurance that a named game is available on your platform. Catalogs change, so verify each must-play title in Xbox’s current library.
Subscription access is temporary: you lose access when the subscription ends or when a game leaves the catalog. Owning a subscription is not the same as owning the games.

Ultimate bundles EA Play, Fortnite Crew, and Ubisoft+ Classics. PC Game Pass includes EA Play. These memberships can make a higher tier more useful if you already want their included benefits; check their current terms and availability before treating them as a substitute for a separate membership.

A quick way to decide
- Identify where you play. For PC only, begin with PC Game Pass. If you need console access or both platforms, compare Essential, Premium, and Ultimate.
- Check your must-play games. Confirm each is currently in the catalog and available on your platform; availability can change.
- Decide how soon you want new games. Choose Ultimate for day-one console-and-PC plan benefits, PC Game Pass for day-one PC releases, or consider Premium if waiting up to 12 months for select Xbox-published games works for you.
- Weigh extras against the monthly cost. Consider online console multiplayer, the advertised catalog size, cloud allowance, and included memberships that you would actually use.
- Verify the live offer and terms. Prices, promotions, features, and availability vary; Premium’s displayed introductory offer is not its standard recurring price.
