Xbox Game Pass on Console vs. PC: Which Plan Fits Your Setup?

PC-only players should compare PC Game Pass, console players should review the console-inclusive tiers, and cross-platform players may value Ultimate’s wider access and extras.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Choose based on where you already play: PC-only players should compare PC Game Pass; Xbox console players should look at the console-inclusive plans; and people who play on both may find Ultimate’s cross-platform access and bundled services useful. Check Xbox’s current local price and game catalog before subscribing, since availability and benefits can change.

Xbox Game Pass plans at a glance

Which plan fits the device you use?

If you play on a Windows PC

PC Game Pass is the focused option to compare if your games stay on Windows. Xbox lists 300+ PC games, day-one releases, EA Play, and in-game benefits with the plan. You do not need to pay for console access you will not use. Check whether the games you want are in the current PC catalog before subscribing.

If you play on an Xbox console

Compare the console-inclusive tiers according to the games and features you care about. Essential covers online console multiplayer and a smaller advertised library; Premium offers a larger catalog and access across devices, but not new Xbox-published games on launch day. Ultimate is the tier to consider when day-one releases, cloud access, and its bundled services matter to you.

If you play on both console and PC

Ultimate is the broadest option in Xbox’s current description: it includes day-one games and access across console, PC, and supported devices, plus cloud gaming, EA Play, Fortnite Crew, and Ubisoft+ Classics. It may make sense if you will use those benefits across your devices; if you primarily play on one platform, compare that platform’s dedicated plan first.

Do you need a paid plan for console multiplayer?

Essential includes online multiplayer for console games. However, Xbox says multiplayer for free-to-play games is available to every Xbox player, so a paid subscription is not required solely to play those games online. For multiplayer in other games, check the game’s requirements and the plan comparison before deciding.

Does day-one access matter to you?

  • Ultimate and PC Game Pass: Xbox lists day-one titles as included.
  • Premium: It does not include day-one access; new Xbox-published games join within one year of launch.
  • Essential: It does not include new releases on day one.

If a particular upcoming game is the reason you are subscribing, verify its platform and plan availability on Xbox’s current pages rather than assuming it will be playable on every device in your subscription.

How to choose before subscribing

  1. Start with your device. Decide whether you play on Windows PC, Xbox console, or both. Do not pay for a broader tier unless its other access is useful to you.
  2. Check the feature that would change your decision. That may be day-one games, online console multiplayer, cloud gaming, or a bundled service.
  3. Look up the games you actually want. Search the current catalog for your region and platform; advertised library counts do not mean every title is available everywhere.
  4. Confirm the amount and renewal terms. Review the current local price and any account-specific offer on Xbox’s comparison page, including when a promotion ends and what the recurring charge will be.

What can change after you subscribe?

Xbox notes that titles, counts, features, and availability vary over time, by region, plan, and platform. Streaming support also depends on the device and tier. Treat catalog totals and bundled benefits as current descriptions, not permanent promises, and review the comparison page when renewing or changing plans.
