PC Game Pass is Xbox’s PC-focused subscription. In the United States, the current listing is $13.99 per month and includes 300+ PC games, day-one releases, EA Play, and in-game benefits. You play eligible titles through the Xbox PC app on a compatible Windows 10 or Windows 11 computer, but access lasts only while your subscription is active and each game remains in the catalog.
What PC Game Pass includes
PC Game Pass is designed for people who play on a Windows computer rather than needing a console-focused membership. The US plan page describes “300+ games playable on PC only,” along with day-one releases, EA Play and in-game benefits. The number of games is a live product-page count, not a permanent catalog size: titles, benefits and availability can change by time, region, plan and platform.

The subscription gives you a license to play included games under the service’s terms. It does not transfer ownership of every title to your Microsoft account. If you cancel, your subscription expires, or a game leaves the library, you lose the subscription-based entitlement to launch it unless you buy it separately or obtain access another way.
Browse the current catalog in the official PC Game Pass page and the Xbox PC app. A game’s store listing is the final check for whether it is currently included and whether your plan and platform are supported.

US plan comparison
Xbox currently lists four Game Pass tiers in the United States. The meaningful differences for a PC player are price, the size and scope of the library, release timing and extra services.

These are current US descriptions from Xbox’s plan overview and comparison page. Prices and benefits can differ in another country, and the checkout page is authoritative for your account. Premium and Essential may look attractive if you also use a console or supported device, but they do not provide the same day-one access as PC Game Pass. Ultimate costs more because it combines the broadest catalog with multi-device access and cloud play.
When PC Game Pass is the logical choice
- You primarily play on Windows and want the PC catalog rather than console or cloud features.
- You value day-one releases and EA Play but do not need the additional Ultimate services.
- You prefer a month-to-month subscription instead of purchasing every game individually.
When another tier may fit better
- Choose Ultimate if you regularly switch among PC, console and supported devices or specifically need cloud play, Fortnite Crew or Ubisoft+ Classics.
- Consider Premium if a lower-priced multi-device plan is more important than playing Xbox-published games on release day.
- Consider Essential if you want the lowest listed price and can wait for new releases, accepting its smaller 50+ game library.
How game access works
Access is conditional, not permanent ownership. Xbox’s PC FAQ says subscribers can use games until the subscription is canceled or expires, or until a game leaves the Game Pass library. A title can therefore stop being playable even while you are still paying if its catalog agreement ends.

Catalog counts and individual titles vary by region, plan and platform. A game shown for console or cloud is not automatically available for Windows PC. Before downloading, open the game’s listing in the Xbox PC app and confirm the PC badge, your plan’s inclusion and the current availability notice.
What happens after cancellation
- While the subscription is active, installed included games launch normally under your account.
- When the paid period ends, subscription-based access stops. Installed files may remain on the drive, but they do not create a perpetual license.
- If a title leaves the catalog first, access ends according to the service’s departure date, even if your billing period has time remaining.
- Buying the game separately, or using another valid entitlement, is required to continue playing after subscription access is gone.
PC requirements and compatibility
The baseline requirements on Xbox’s PC Game Pass page are Windows 10 or Windows 11, version 22H2 or higher, and the Xbox PC app. The app-level requirements list 150 MB of storage and a 720p display. Those figures describe the app, not the games themselves.
- Operating system: Windows 10/11, version 22H2 or newer.
- Application: the Xbox PC app, signed in with the Microsoft account holding the subscription.
- Storage: at least 150 MB for the app itself; installed games need far more space according to their own listings.
- Display: 720p is the app-level minimum; a game may require a higher resolution or a particular graphics feature.
- Windows mode: Xbox notes that using the PC app may require leaving Windows S mode.
Every game has separate minimum and recommended specifications. Check its listing for processor, memory, graphics hardware, storage, operating-system updates and any peripheral requirements. A computer capable of installing the Xbox app is not automatically capable of running every included game at an acceptable frame rate.

How to start playing on a Windows PC
- Confirm your Windows version. Open Settings, choose System, then About, and verify that Windows 10 or 11 is on version 22H2 or higher. Install pending Windows updates before troubleshooting the Xbox app.
- Review the live plan offer. Open the US PC Game Pass purchase listing or the Xbox page for your market. Check the displayed monthly price, any promotional eligibility and the renewal terms before confirming payment.
- Install or update the Xbox PC app. Sign in with the same Microsoft account used for the subscription. The app is the place to browse, filter, install and launch PC Game Pass titles.
- Find a game. Use the app’s search and filters, open the game page, and verify that it is included in your plan and currently available for PC.
- Check hardware requirements. Compare the game’s minimum specifications with your processor, graphics device, memory and available storage. Do this before starting a large download.
- Install to a suitable drive. Select an installation location with enough free space for the game and future updates. Large modern games can require substantially more capacity than the 150 MB app requirement.
- Launch from the Xbox app. Keep the app and Windows current if the game requests an update, then start the title from your library.
Price, promotions and recurring billing
The regular US listing for PC Game Pass is $13.99 per month. Xbox states that recurring billing is enabled by default and that the subscription continues automatically unless you turn it off through your Microsoft account. The amount charged after an introductory offer can differ from a promotional amount, so read the renewal date and future price shown at checkout.

- Sign in to the Microsoft account that owns the subscription.
- Open the account’s Services & subscriptions area.
- Find PC Game Pass and choose the management option for billing.
- Select the control to turn off recurring billing, then confirm the displayed end date and cancellation choice.
Turning off recurring billing normally preserves access through the already-paid period; the account page shows the exact end date and status. If you see a different offer, currency or tax treatment, use the terms displayed for your market rather than assuming the US amount applies.
How to verify whether a specific game is included
- Search for the title in the Xbox PC app or on Xbox’s current catalog pages.
- Look for a PC-playable designation rather than relying on a console or cloud listing.
- Check which plans are named in the inclusion panel. A game can be available in Ultimate but absent from a lower tier.
- Read the availability and age-rating notices, including region restrictions or a scheduled removal date.
- Open the requirements section and compare it with your PC before installing.
This process matters because the headline library count is an aggregate number. It does not promise that every title is available in every country, on every platform or for every plan at the same time.

Common problems and practical fixes
The game appears installed but will not launch
First confirm that the Microsoft Store and Xbox PC app are signed in to the same account. Then check the subscription status and whether the game has left the catalog. If the entitlement is valid, install pending app or Windows updates and restart the PC before reinstalling.
The app installs but the game runs poorly
Compare your system with the game’s minimum and recommended requirements, not the app’s 150 MB and 720p figures. Update the graphics driver, close unnecessary background software and reduce in-game resolution or quality settings. Hardware below the minimum specification may not deliver a reliable experience even when installation succeeds.

Verify your Microsoft account’s country or region, the plan tier and the platform filter. Xbox changes catalog contents over time, and a title promoted for console or cloud may not have a PC version in your market. The individual game page is more useful than a cached list or an old article.
Windows S mode blocks the normal setup
Xbox notes that using the PC app may require leaving S mode. Review Microsoft’s current Windows instructions before changing modes, because the switch can affect which applications you can install and may not be reversible through the same path.
Is PC Game Pass worth it for your use case?
Estimate how many included games you will actually play during a year, then compare that value with the recurring fee and the price of titles you would otherwise buy. The subscription is strongest for players who try many games, want day-one releases or make frequent use of EA Play. It is less compelling if you play one title for a long time, require permanent ownership, or have a PC below that game’s requirements.
