If you’re comparing Xbox Game Pass Core, Standard, and Ultimate, the current US plan names are Essential, Premium, and Ultimate, respectively. Essential suits console players who mainly want online multiplayer and a smaller game library; Premium adds a larger catalog and cloud play; Ultimate is for players who will use its broader catalog, eligible day-one games, and included services. The best fit depends on what you play and which benefits you’ll actually use—not simply the largest game count.
How the old plan names map to current Xbox Game Pass plans
Xbox’s current US lineup calls the tiers Essential, Premium, and Ultimate. Essential corresponds to the former Core tier, and Premium to the former Standard tier. Ultimate keeps its name. Because Xbox’s current pages do not spell out every migration or billing detail, legacy subscribers should check their Microsoft account for their own plan and renewal terms rather than assuming every old subscription changed identically. Xbox’s current plan page and plan comparison show the current lineup.

Which Xbox Game Pass plan should you get?
Choose Essential if online console multiplayer and a smaller library are enough
Essential is the most focused choice for someone who wants paid online multiplayer for eligible console games, a smaller included catalog, and basic plan benefits. Xbox says it includes 50+ games and 5 cloud gaming hours per month. It does not include new releases on day one. You do not need a paid Game Pass plan to play free-to-play multiplayer games on Xbox; Xbox says that multiplayer is open to every Xbox player.
Choose Premium for more games and cloud play without needing day-one releases
Premium offers Xbox’s stated 200+ game catalog and 10 cloud gaming hours per month. Xbox says selected Xbox-published games are added within one year of launch, subject to exceptions. It is the middle option for players who want a broader library and cloud gaming but are comfortable waiting for qualifying new Xbox-published games rather than playing them at launch.

- TMR Sticks: The G7 Pro features GameSir's Mag-Res TMR sticks, combining Hall Effect durability with traditional potentiometer performance. This advanced technology delivers stable polling rates for smooth, drift-free gaming with low power consumption.
- Hall Effect Analog Triggers: The GameSir precision-tuned Hall Effect analog triggers provide unmatched smoothness and linear input for precise control. Featuring clicky Micro Switch trigger stops, gamers can easily switch based on their preferences.
- 1000Hz Polling Rate on PC: Experience ultra-responsive gaming with a 1000Hz polling rate on PC, available through both wired and 2.4G wireless connections. This ensures instantaneous input registration, reducing lag and optimizing your performance for the most competitive gameplay.
- GameSir Nexus App: The G7 Pro is compatible with the upgraded GameSir Nexus app, which brings a significant upgrade over the original. It introduces powerful new features such as gyro settings, stick curve adjustments, and button-to-mouse mapping, giving you deeper customization and more control than ever before.
Choose Ultimate if you will use its added catalog, launch access, or bundled services
Ultimate combines the largest stated console-oriented catalog—500+ games—with 15 cloud gaming hours per month. It includes day-one access for eligible games and EA Play, Fortnite Crew, and Ubisoft+ Classics. The higher monthly charge is easier to justify if you expect to use several of those benefits; if you mainly play a few games already available elsewhere, a lower tier may fit better.

In an April 21, 2026 update, Xbox Wire said future Call of Duty games would arrive in Ultimate and PC Game Pass around the following holiday season, approximately a year later; Call of Duty games already in the catalog would remain available. What about PC Game Pass?
If you play only on Windows PC, compare PC Game Pass before choosing among the three tiers above. Xbox lists it separately, with 300+ PC games, day-one access, EA Play, and in-game benefits. Xbox’s comparison footnote says cloud gaming is not included with PC Game Pass. The console plan comparison is therefore not the whole current lineup for a PC-only player. Check the current Xbox comparison for device and plan eligibility.
Check the price and terms before subscribing
Xbox’s US comparison page displayed Premium at $14.99 per month and Ultimate at $22.99 per month in 2026. A verified US Essential price was not available in the retrieved official page information, so check the price shown for your account instead of relying on an older article or another country’s figure. Prices and promotions can change. Xbox says offers may be limited to eligible subscribers or regions, may automatically continue at the then-current regular price unless canceled, and may be subject to taxes. Subscriptions renew automatically unless canceled. Xbox says recurring billing can be managed through a Microsoft account or console; review the billing setting and next charge date before an offer or renewal. Rewards points also have conditions tied to Microsoft account, market, age, playtime, and purchases, so do not treat a stated points multiplier as a fixed cash discount.
Before deciding, check your games, devices, and region
- Confirm your must-play games are in the live catalog. Catalog inclusion changes, and access is not permanent ownership.
- Check where you plan to play. Xbox lists console, Windows PC, and supported streaming devices, but downloads, streaming, and plan eligibility vary by device and plan.
- Verify cloud support. Cloud gaming requires a supported device and region, and monthly allowances are limited by plan.
- Compare the actual recurring cost. Weigh the amount at your account’s checkout against the services you would otherwise buy and the games you expect to play.
- Read offer and renewal terms. Promotional pricing can be restricted and may roll into the regular price automatically unless canceled.
For plan features and caveats, consult Xbox’s current US plan page and official comparison. The April 2026 Call of Duty timing update is described by Xbox Wire; its price figures concern France, not the United States.
