Microsoft’s current supported-device information does not list PS5. A PS5 does have its own cloud-streaming option, but it is Sony’s PlayStation Plus Premium service for selected PS5 games, not Xbox Cloud Gaming. The better choice depends on which games and ecosystem you want.
Can you play Xbox Cloud Gaming on PS5?
PS5 is not an officially listed Xbox Cloud Gaming device. Microsoft lists supported devices such as Xbox consoles, PCs, mobile devices, selected TVs and other compatible devices; its Xbox Wire setup guide identifies Xbox One and later as supported consoles. That does not establish that no unofficial workaround could ever function, but Microsoft’s cited information does not support a PS5 browser or other workaround as an official, reliable route.

If you want Xbox Cloud Gaming on a supported console, Xbox hardware is the straightforward option. You do not necessarily need an Xbox console to use the service at all: Microsoft supports other listed devices too. Check Microsoft’s live Xbox Cloud Gaming device and service information before choosing, since supported devices and availability can change. The Xbox Wire setup guide published December 19, 2025 describes Xbox One and later, along with apps on Windows PCs, gaming handhelds, smart TVs and streaming devices, and Meta Quest. It describes browser access on MacOS, iOS/iPadOS, Android, ChromeOS and Steam Deck.
What cloud gaming does PS5 offer?
PS5 supports Sony’s separate Cloud Streaming service for PlayStation Plus Premium members. It can stream selected PS5 games, including eligible titles from selected PlayStation Plus Game Catalog and Classics Catalog selections, selected digital games and select free-to-play titles. Availability varies by game and region, so having a PS5 or a Premium membership alone does not mean every game can be streamed.

Which option fits your situation?
Choose Xbox console hardware for Xbox Cloud Gaming on a console
If your priority is Xbox games and the supported console route for Xbox Cloud Gaming, choose Xbox hardware. Xbox Series X is one model to consider; check Microsoft’s current console listings and local availability. If you do not need console-local play, first see whether another officially supported device you already own can run the service.
Keep or choose PS5 for PlayStation games and Sony streaming
If you want PS5 games, the PlayStation ecosystem or Sony’s selected cloud-streaming catalog, PS5 is the relevant platform. PlayStation Plus Premium streaming is a distinct service and does not provide Xbox Cloud Gaming.

If you have a PS5 and specifically want Xbox games
Do not count on the PS5 browser, an accessory or an unofficial setup to make Xbox Cloud Gaming supported. Microsoft’s device information does not list PS5. Use an officially listed device for Xbox Cloud Gaming, or choose Xbox console hardware if you want that experience on a console.
How to make the decision
- Start with the games. Check whether the specific games you want are available on Xbox or PS5 and, for streaming, whether they are currently eligible in your region.
- Match the service to the device. For Xbox Cloud Gaming, verify that your device appears in Microsoft’s supported-device information. For PS5 Cloud Streaming, check Sony’s eligibility and regional details.
- Check subscription access. Confirm the eligible Game Pass plan for the Xbox games you want, or PlayStation Plus Premium for PS5 Cloud Streaming. Select free-to-play Xbox titles have a separate free-account access allowance in supported regions.
- Check your connection and setup. Compare your available connection with the applicable provider’s guidance, use the recommended network conditions where possible, and make sure you have a compatible controller when the game requires one.
- Decide whether streaming alone is enough. Consider whether you also want console-local play, and weigh that against using a supported PC, mobile device, TV or other endpoint you already own.
What this comparison cannot establish
The cited Microsoft and Sony information does not provide a controlled comparison of latency or image quality, and it does not establish which service will feel faster or look better in a particular home. Actual results depend on network conditions, location, device and game. Microsoft also notes that game titles, features and availability vary over time by region, Game Pass plan and platform. Check the providers’ current service pages for details before subscribing or buying hardware.
