Xbox CEO Asha Sharma reportedly told employees that the business had started to return to growth after reaching an “all time low.” But the public report does not identify what was growing or provide supporting figures. Microsoft’s latest cited results show Xbox content and services revenue fell 10% year over year in the quarter ended June 30, 2026, so the town-hall claim should be treated as an attributed internal update—not a verified financial turnaround.
What did Xbox’s CEO say?
Windows Central reported in October 2026 that Sharma made the remarks at an internal Xbox town hall. It quoted her saying: “We’re making the right decisions to reinvest in the business, after an all time low, we’ve started to return to growth, more than 2 to 3 times what we were, and we expect that continue.”

The report did not publish town-hall slides or supporting data. In particular, it does not explain what “more than 2 to 3 times what we were” measures. That phrase cannot be read as a revenue, profit, player, or subscriber growth rate without more information.

What do Microsoft’s public results show?
Microsoft’s FY2026 Q4 results report that Xbox content and services revenue declined 10% year over year for the quarter ended June 30, 2026. Microsoft’s category is broad: it includes first- and third-party game content, Game Pass and other subscriptions, Xbox Cloud Gaming, advertising, and other cloud services.

That reported decline does not by itself disprove Sharma’s statement. She may have been referring to a different measure or timeframe, but neither the town-hall report nor the cited financial results establish which one. The public evidence therefore does not show that Xbox’s reported revenue had returned to growth.
How do the older Xbox figures fit?
Microsoft’s FY2026 Q2 results, for the quarter ended December 31, 2025, showed Xbox hardware revenue down 32% year over year, attributed to lower console volume. Xbox content and services revenue fell 5% year over year in that same quarter.

Those figures provide earlier context, not a current-quarter comparison: hardware and content and services are separate reporting areas, and the Q2 results should not be substituted for Q4. A hardware revenue decline also does not establish the direction of the broader business or explain the unspecified growth measure in Sharma’s remarks.

The town-hall quote links decisions to reinvest in the business with the claimed return to growth, and the headline framing refers to cuts. But the public reporting does not quantify the cuts or establish that they caused growth. It also does not define a growth metric that can be checked against Microsoft’s published revenue figures.

The defensible conclusion is narrower: Sharma reportedly told staff that Xbox had started to return to growth after an all-time low, while Microsoft’s latest cited public revenue figure for Xbox content and services was still down year over year. The sources do not resolve the difference between those statements.
