During setup, connect your phone or tablet to that same 2.4 GHz network, then enter its exact network name and password in the Wyze app. Some Wyze products support 5 GHz, so check the setup guide for your specific model before relying on the general rule.
Which Wi-Fi network does a Wyze camera need?
Wyze says most of its devices work only with 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi using WPA/WPA2 security. A few products are exceptions: Wyze identifies Battery Cam Pro, Cam Floodlight Pro and Video Doorbell Pro as dual-band devices; its connectivity guidance also names Wyze Mesh Router and Mesh Router Pro as 5 GHz-capable. Capabilities depend on the product, so use the current setup guide for your exact camera model rather than assuming every Wyze camera has the same bands. See Wyze’s Wi-Fi and router requirements and connectivity tips.

Wyze cameras are not suited to enterprise or public Wi-Fi that requires a browser sign-in or landing page, as is common on some hotel and airport networks. A network that asks for an account name in addition to a Wi-Fi password may also be incompatible with the standard setup process.
Prepare the phone, camera and network
- Use 2.4 GHz on the setup phone. Wyze’s app guidance calls for the phone or tablet to be connected to 2.4 GHz during setup. For Cam v4, Wyze specifies the same 2.4 GHz network that you enter in the app. Wyze App Setup Guide.
- Have the correct network name and password ready. Passwords are case-sensitive; check for accidental spaces at either end and make sure the SSID is the intended one. Wyze setup troubleshooting.
- Power the camera and follow model-specific prompts. Button locations and setup cues vary by model. Do not assume the setup button or indicator instructions for one camera apply to another.
- Check router security. The general compatibility guidance specifies WPA/WPA2. If you cannot confirm the security mode or band settings, consult the router maker or internet provider’s current instructions.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Install or open the Wyze app and sign in.
- Connect the phone or tablet to the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network you intend the camera to use.
- Power the camera using the cable and adapter specified for that model.
- In the app, choose the option to add a device and select the matching camera model.
- Press the camera’s SETUP button as directed by its guide and wait for the ready-to-connect prompt. Some models may give that prompt without a button press; Cam v4’s guide notes this possibility and locates its SETUP button behind the lens.
- Select the 2.4 GHz network in the app, enter its password, and continue through the on-screen pairing steps.
See the Cam v3 Setup Guide or Cam v4 Setup Guide for model-specific steps.
If setup fails on a dual-band router
Some routers combine the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands under one network name or steer devices between bands. Features may be labeled Band Steering, Smart Connect or Single SSID. Wyze says this can keep a camera from finding or pairing with the intended 2.4 GHz network; it does not mean every router or mesh system will have the problem. Its troubleshooting article was updated March 31, 2026: Troubleshooting Wyze Cam connectivity on dual-band routers.

If your router allows it, temporarily separate the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz network names, connect the phone to the 2.4 GHz name, and retry setup. Alternatively, temporarily disable 5 GHz if the router provides that control, then turn it back on after pairing. Router interfaces vary, so use the router maker’s or ISP’s instructions rather than following a menu path meant for a different model. Wyze says its own Mesh Router and Mesh Router Pro cannot have their bands split, but a Wyze Cam can still connect to those systems without splitting them.
Work through setup problems in order
- Confirm the phone’s band. If the router broadcasts separate names, Wyze says a name without “5G,” “5g,” “5GHz” or “5” is generally the 2.4 GHz choice. Custom names make this only a clue, not proof; check the router’s settings if unsure.
- Recheck credentials. Confirm the SSID and password character by character. Check capitalization and remove any unintended leading or trailing spaces.
- Check camera power and setup state. Verify the camera is powered and showing or announcing the state required by its model’s guide. Use the correct SETUP button instructions for that model.
- Refresh the setup attempt. Restart the phone and camera, force-close and reopen the app, then try again. Wyze also suggests forgetting and reconnecting to Wi-Fi in its general troubleshooting guidance; exact phone settings differ by operating system.
- Review router configuration. Confirm WPA/WPA2 security and look for band steering or combined-band settings. Change those only if the router offers the control and follow its current instructions.

If the camera connects but later goes offline
Pairing and reliable streaming are different problems. For an offline camera, Wyze recommends checking app permissions and camera power, confirming the intended Wi-Fi network, moving the camera closer to the router, rebooting the router, and power-cycling the camera. Some remedies depend on the model and firmware; use the specific device support page for model-specific faults. See Wyze Cam Troubleshooting Basics and My camera is offline in the Wyze app.
Check upstream bandwidth and signal
A speed test’s download result does not show whether there is enough upload capacity for camera video. Wyze advises testing at different times of day and gives minimum upload guidance of 1–2 Mbps for SD and 4–7 Mbps for HD. These are Wyze’s stated recommendations; the pages do not identify a publication year for the figures. Actual performance can also be affected by signal strength and other network activity. See Wyze’s Wi-Fi connectivity tips.

When changing router settings is worth trying
Before changing equipment, use the checks above to isolate whether the issue is band selection, credentials, camera power, signal or upload capacity. If band steering appears to be blocking pairing, temporarily separating the bands or pausing 5 GHz is a targeted test—not a requirement for every Wyze camera or router. Router controls vary, and Wyze’s guidance does not establish a router, extender, replacement adapter or camera purchase as a generally necessary fix.
