There is no evidence-backed universal winner between WPForms and Fluent Forms. The better fit is the plugin whose current plan covers the forms, payment gateways, integrations, and number of WordPress sites you actually need—at a renewal cost that works for you.
What the two plugins do
Both are WordPress form-builder plugins. Fluent Forms’ documentation describes a drag-and-drop builder for forms, payment forms, and quizzes, alongside integrations and entry management. Fluent Forms developer documentation outlines those capabilities.

The decision is primarily about workflow and licensing: whether the features you need are available on the plan you would buy, how many sites the license covers, and what it costs after any introductory offer.

How their features and plans compare
Fluent Forms’ comparison page says both products offer capabilities such as conditional logic, multi-step forms, and conversational forms, while its table places some WPForms capabilities in higher tiers. This is a vendor-authored comparison, not independent verification; confirm any feature that matters against current product documentation and plan terms. See Fluent Forms’ comparison.
#1 Best Overall
Fluent Forms advertises features in its free version, including templates and conversational forms. Its own free-version page and WordPress.org listing should be checked for the exact features and payment terms currently included: Fluent Forms free version and Fluent Forms on WordPress.org. The WordPress.org listing describes payment fields for free users in version 6.0 with a 1.9% transaction fee; that version-specific fee and feature availability may change, so verify them before relying on them.
WPForms’ pricing page lists Basic, Plus, Pro, and Elite licenses, with site allowances and payment capabilities varying by tier. It also says special introductory pricing renews at full price. Check the current table and renewal terms rather than relying on an old quoted price: WPForms pricing.

Choose by the work your forms need to do
| Your requirement | What to verify |
|---|---|
| Basic contact forms | Required fields, templates, notification options, submission management, and free-plan limits. |
| Conditional or multi-step forms | Whether the exact logic and step behavior you need are included at the relevant license tier. If save-and-resume or conversational presentation matters, verify those specific capabilities too. |
| Payments | The required gateway, recurring-payment behavior, fees, refunds, and whether payment processing is available on the intended tier. |
| Integrations | Whether the exact CRM, email platform, spreadsheet, automation service, or webhook connector is supported on your plan. |
| Several sites or client projects | License site count, agency-related features, permitted use on client sites, and renewal amount. |
| Long-term cost | Introductory and renewal prices, any currently offered lifetime option, transaction fees, and required add-ons. |
A practical way to decide
- Write down the workflows. List the fields, conditional rules, steps, payment behavior, notifications, integrations, and exports each form must support.
- Match each requirement to a current plan. Use the vendors’ current documentation and pricing pages, and confirm the precise tier for each feature rather than assuming it is included in every license.
- Calculate the cost for your use. Include the number of sites, renewal price, transaction fees, and any add-ons required to deliver the workflow.
- Test critical flows in your own WordPress environment. For an important intake or payment form, check successful and failed submissions, notifications, integrations, and exports before relying on it.
What the available evidence cannot settle
The available sources do not establish an independent winner for speed, accessibility, ease of use, or support quality. No independent head-to-head testing is cited here, and no product test is claimed. Treat claims on a vendor’s comparison page as that vendor’s claims, especially where plan placement or pricing is part of the comparison.
