Blizzard’s PvP system for WoW: Forever trims the original Honor System, but it keeps a weekly rhythm. Rank progress is capped each week, and every season includes a journey of weekly tasks. Those tasks feed both Honor and Rank Points, and three of them per season also award a Legacy Point. Below is how the pieces fit together, what Blizzard’s announcement actually commits to, and where the “weekly grind” criticism comes from.
Honor and Rank Points are separate currencies
Forever’s PvP progression runs on two values that should not be confused. Honor is earned through PvP participation and works as a currency. Rank Points come from specific activities, including battlegrounds and certain quests. Blizzard says the goal is more consistent Honor acquisition rates than the original system delivered. The table summarises what the announcement and GamesRadar+’s report state, and marks the values that are not published.

The weekly Rank Point cap still applies
Blizzard presents the journey as more accessible, but rank progress is still capped weekly. That is the core pacing constraint of the system. Neither the announcement nor GamesRadar+’s report gives the number, so any figure you see elsewhere should be checked against Blizzard’s own text before you rely on it.

How the seasonal weekly tasks work
Each season includes a journey with weekly tasks. Their effects differ depending on what they reward.
Honor and Rank Point rewards
Completing a weekly task grants both Honor and Rank Points. These are the progression currencies described above, so the tasks serve as an additional route to earning them alongside PvP play.

- 6 collectible tokens voted on by the fans
- Custom sculpted houses (Towns) and Hotels (Cities)
- Item package dimension : 10.0" L x 20.0" W x 1.25" H
Legacy Points from three tasks
Three tasks each season also grant a Legacy Point. This is a fixed system rule stated in the announcement, not a population statistic. Legacy Points are tied to goals that remain available in future seasons, so a Legacy Point earned now is not limited to the season in which it was earned.

Blizzard says tasks connected to the Legacy System remain available to complete in future seasons. That gives players a route back to older Legacy-related goals after a missed week. The announcement does not quantify how much this softens the cost of missing time, so how much relief it provides in practice is a judgement rather than a measured result.

What Blizzard says the design is for
Blizzard’s developers frame the rework around an existing design pillar:
“When reimagining the PvP system, we wanted to keep the design pillar of ‘Approachable and Familiar’ firmly in view: simplifying the original Honor System while staying true to its roots.”

The announcement also says: “Each season also includes a journey with weekly tasks to complete.” Its conclusion argues that “With more ways to make progress each week and meaningful goals to pursue throughout the season, PvP in World of Warcraft: Forever gives players a clear path to jump in, compete, and keep building toward what comes next.”

Why critics call it a grind
The “controversial” label comes from GamesRadar+’s framing of its report, not from a survey of players. The article quotes a few anonymous commenters. One reads, “Please don’t do the weeklies thing.” Others describe “weekly checkboxes” they feel they must tick, and having to farm every week. These are examples chosen for the story. They do not show how most players feel, and no count or poll of overall opinion is cited.
The tension is straightforward. The announcement pitches more ways to progress each week and consistent Honor acquisition, while critics read the same weekly structure as a checklist that obliges regular play. Both readings describe the same rules.
What the sources do and do not establish
- Blizzard’s announcement is cited from its indexed text. GamesRadar+’s report paraphrases it in detail, and the two agree on the core rules described above.
- GamesRadar+ gives a November 4 release date. This article has not confirmed that date against an official schedule, so check Blizzard’s news page before planning around it.
- No hands-on testing is described here. GamesRadar+ says Forever uses its own approach to PvP progression, but the sources do not establish a broader comparison with retail or Classic progression.
The sources therefore support the rules of the system and Blizzard’s stated intent. They do not support claims about how fast players advance, how much time the weekly tasks take, or how players actually feel about them.
