World Liberty Financial (WLF) is a digital-finance project whose official materials describe several products, including USD1, a stablecoin, and WLFI, a token used to vote on selected protocol decisions. They are separate assets with different stated purposes: USD1 is intended to track the U.S. dollar, while WLFI is described as a governance token. WLF’s own FAQ says the project is not a DAO and that World Liberty Financial LLC administers the protocol.
What is World Liberty Financial?
World Liberty Financial is a project and brand for blockchain-based financial products and services. Its official homepage lists USD1, WLFI Markets, AgentPay SDK, governance and bridge tools. It identifies Dolomite as the provider of WLFI Markets and labels the WLFI App “Coming Soon.” The site lists Ethereum, BNB Smart Chain and Solana for WLFI. These are descriptions of the lineup and supported networks on WLF’s site, not independent confirmation of product availability or performance; features and terms can change. - WLF Protocol: the protocol where some decisions may be put to tokenholder governance.
- WLFI: a token the FAQ describes as being for protocol governance.
- USD1: a separate stablecoin product. WLF’s FAQ identifies BitGo as its issuer and says WLF entities own the brand and provide certain services.
- World Liberty Financial LLC: the Florida limited liability company that WLF’s FAQ identifies as protocol administrator.
What is the difference between WLFI and USD1?
| Asset | Stated purpose | Important distinction |
|---|---|---|
| WLFI | Participating in selected WLF Protocol governance decisions | WLF’s materials do not describe it as company ownership or a claim on company revenue. |
| USD1 | A stablecoin intended to maintain a value of one U.S. dollar | It is separate from WLFI. WLF says BitGo issues it and handles initial purchases and redemptions. |
WLF’s FAQ says, “$WLFI exists for one thing: governance.” That describes the token’s stated role; it does not mean WLFI holders control every activity of the company or protocol.

How does WLFI governance work?
According to WLF’s FAQ, holders may propose, discuss and vote on protocol matters. Discussion in the forum is open to registered users, but it is not itself a token vote. Formal proposals go through Snapshot after company screening. The FAQ describes the following rules, which it says can change:
- Voting usually lasts seven days.
- A proposal needs a majority of votes cast and at least 1 billion WLFI participating to pass.
- Each holder’s voting power is capped at 5 billion WLFI, described by the FAQ as 5% of total supply.
These are the procedures stated in WLF’s documentation, not permanent guarantees about how voting will work. The FAQ says the company may change thresholds and procedures.

Is World Liberty Financial a DAO?
No. WLF’s FAQ explicitly says it is not a DAO. It identifies World Liberty Financial LLC as the protocol administrator and says protocol administration is controlled through one or more multisigs whose signers are determined by WLFI. The FAQ also says WLFI itself is not subject to tokenholder proposals or votes. In practical terms, a vote on selected protocol matters should not be read as tokenholders owning or controlling the company, administering every protocol function, or receiving company revenue.

Is USD1 backed by dollars, and can holders redeem it?
WLF’s FAQ describes USD1 as “100% backed” and redeemable one-to-one for U.S. dollars. It says reserves consist of short-term U.S. government treasuries, U.S. government money market funds, U.S. dollar deposits and other cash equivalents. These are issuer statements, not independently confirmed reserve findings here; current reserve reports and figures are not established in the documentation details cited in this article.

The same FAQ identifies BitGo Trust Company and/or BitGo Technologies as holding or maintaining reserve assets. It says BitGo issues USD1 and handles initial purchases and redemptions. Eligible BitGo customers may redeem directly; other holders may need to use an exchange, platform or regulated custodian and meet that provider’s terms and eligibility requirements. WLF says reserves will be periodically examined by an independent third party, but a current report date, reserve total and circulating supply are not specified here. See WLF’s official documentation for its USD1 information.

WLFI staking
WLF describes staking as a way to become eligible for potential rewards in USD1, subject to voting conditions. Its documentation describes a 180-day lock. Staking does not increase voting power, and staked tokens cannot be transferred until the lock expires and the holder unstakes. The documentation calls the rewards potential, not guaranteed yield. It also says locked early-supporter tokens may vote but cannot be transferred or staked until unlocked.

USD1 Points
USD1 Points are not USD1 or WLFI. WLF’s WLFI Markets guide describes them as a non-transferable participation metric, not a cryptocurrency or digital asset. The guide states that supplying at least 1,000 USD1 is required to earn points through the described WLFI Markets program. That minimum and the program’s availability may change; the guide does not promise points have cash value or will accrue in every circumstance.
