WordPress Themes and Plugins: Manage Them in hPanel

Manage installed WordPress themes and plugins from hPanel’s WordPress Overview Security page, without opening WordPress Admin.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

You can update, activate, deactivate, or delete installed WordPress themes and plugins from the hosting dashboard without opening WordPress Admin. In hPanel, go to Websites → Dashboard → WordPress Overview → Security, then choose the site you want to manage.

Open the WordPress Overview Security page

  1. Sign in to hPanel and open Websites → Dashboard for the relevant website.

  2. If you manage WordPress installations on subdomains, select the intended site from the site selector.

  3. In the WordPress Overview sidebar, choose Security. The page shows WordPress core information alongside the installed themes and plugins.

Manage existing themes and plugins

Check themes

The themes list identifies the active theme and shows its security status. Use the page’s available update control to update an installed theme. This page is for managing existing items; its documentation does not describe installing a new theme here.

Review and change plugins

For each installed plugin, the page can show its security status, a vulnerability flag, a recommendation when applicable, and controls to activate or deactivate, update, or delete it. Deactivating a plugin is not the same as deleting it: the activation toggle changes whether it runs, while the trash or delete control removes the installed item.

Before changing a live site, consider using staging if it is available for your account. Check staging eligibility in hPanel, since availability depends on the account. Testing changes there can help you assess their effect before applying them to the live site.

Update WordPress core when offered

Review the WordPress version section. If hPanel presents a core update option, you can use it there; the available action may depend on the site’s current state.

Choose automatic updates by component

In the automatic-update settings, choose either Smart auto-updates or Native auto-updates, then configure WordPress core, themes, and plugins separately. For each component, the documented update scopes are:

  • No updates: do not apply automatic updates for that component.
  • Security updates only: limit automatic updates to security updates.
  • All updates: apply the broader set of updates automatically.

There is no single setting that suits every site. A narrower scope means fewer automatic changes; a broader scope can apply more updates without manual action. Consider how you monitor the site and test changes when deciding which scope to use for each component.

Understand the security indicators

The dashboard identifies its vulnerability-data source behind the Security status and smart-update or vulnerability alerts. Treat the status and recommendations as useful signals, not as a guarantee that a site is secure. It also cautions that inactive websites can still be affected by theme or plugin vulnerabilities, and that vulnerabilities on one site may put other sites on the same plan at risk.

The built-in vulnerability monitoring is distinct from a paid managed security subscription promoted on the page; the subscription is optional and is not required to use the dashboard controls.

If WordPress Overview is missing

For a manually installed or migrated site

  1. Go to Websites → Dashboard and find WordPress Overview. If it is not visible, search for WordPress under Website.

  2. Select the domain or subdomain if prompted, then choose Detect.

  3. Allow up to 10 minutes, then refresh the dashboard. If detection fails, check that the WordPress files are in the expected directory, typically public_html or the domain root.

Overview is enabled automatically for WordPress installations created through Auto Installer. Manually installed or migrated sites may require detection.

For Agency Hosting or a site in migration

Agency Hosting does not have a separate WordPress Overview or Security page. Agency Hosting users are directed to WordPress Admin for changing or installing themes and installing plugins. Some dashboard tools can also be temporarily disabled while a migration to the same domain is in progress; that temporary state does not by itself indicate a site failure.

What this dashboard does not replace

The Security page documents controls for installed themes and plugins, including activation, updates, and deletion. It does not establish a way to install new themes or plugins from WordPress Overview. Use WordPress Admin when you need to add a new item or when the Overview page is unavailable for your account or hosting type.
