A small pre-publication gate can catch missing translations, mismatched page details, oversized images and broken redirects before they reach readers. In an account published on DEV Community on October 5, 2026, WordPress site operator Pavlo Kazarian describes a custom command that checks live pages and WordPress REST API records, then returns a failing exit code if a registered rule does not pass. Its value is concrete: preventing a repeatable class of publishing mistakes, not proving a traffic or SEO lift.
Why translation parity is the first check to build
A translated page can exist and still be wrong. Its counterpart may be missing, or key information may have drifted between versions. A useful gate checks both translation existence and parity: whether the corresponding page is present, and whether fields readers depend on agree.

Kazarian says this parity check caught more real problems on his site than the other checks combined. His examples include contact phone numbers, author details, calls to action, heading counts and whether a FAQ is present. For a site that publishes prices or offers, those should be part of the required-field policy too: a translation that changes an offer is not equivalent merely because it has a matching URL.

Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →The distinction matters: existence is a yes-or-no relationship between language versions; parity is a comparison of required content within that pair. Both deserve explicit checks.

How the publishing gate works
The described tool accepts a page URL, fetches the public page and its WordPress REST API record, locates the language pair, and runs registered checks. Each check returns a common result shape. The runner displays a verdict and exits with a non-zero status if any check fails, which lets a publishing workflow treat a failed rule as a release blocker. Kazarian keeps the implementation straightforward, with one function per rule.
- Provide a page URL. The command uses it to retrieve the live page and structured CMS data.
- Find the language pair. The gate identifies the corresponding page so it can check both existence and parity.
- Run discrete checks. Each rule returns a consistent result the runner can report.
- Show findings and set the exit status. A failed check produces a non-zero exit code, allowing the surrounding process to stop publication.
This is a practical version of “rules as code”: take requirements written in prose and express the deterministic ones as executable checks. The phrase is also used in other fields; for example, the MIT Computational Law Report discusses it in connection with encoding government rules. That work has a different domain and stakes from operational checks on website content.

What to check on a WordPress page
Language relationships and required fields
- Confirm that the expected translated counterpart exists.
- Compare fields that should match, such as contact details, author, calls to action, heading count and FAQ presence.
- Define which content is intentionally language-specific and which must remain consistent; do not treat every difference as an error.
Image format, size and metadata
The gate described by Kazarian enforces a maximum image width of 1,600 pixels, WebP for page images, and required alt text and captions. He reports that some image issues can be repaired automatically by downloading the image, resizing and converting it, then writing metadata through the WordPress REST API. That is an implementation-specific capability, not a guarantee of WordPress itself.
His account also notes two practical distinctions: retain a JPEG copy for Open Graph sharing when page images use WebP, and do not assume that the featured image and hero image are the same asset. Those details matter when the automated rule touches media or metadata.
Typography and layout-sensitive content
The checks flag selected dash characters and repeated non-breaking spaces. On Kazarian’s site, pasted typography had caused a narrow-grid layout problem, and these patterns also served as clues that text might have been pasted without cleanup. This is a site-specific rationale: choose typography rules based on actual rendering requirements, rather than treating every stylistic preference as a universal publishing failure.
Redirect chains
The redirect check follows the chain, verifies that it ends with HTTP 200, and rejects chains beyond the configured threshold. The account describes a prior problem involving relative redirect targets and cached 404 responses that affected logged-out visitors. Test the route readers actually use, including unauthenticated access, rather than assuming an editor’s successful preview proves a redirect is healthy.

Make failures useful—and repairs safe
A gate that only says “failed” is hard to act on. OWASP’s DevSecOps guidance recommends testing policies, reporting failures in actionable terms, starting with audit or warning behavior, and enforcing high-confidence rules after checking for false positives. It also recommends an explicit, auditable exemption process. These are general policy-as-code practices, not features established in Kazarian’s implementation.
For automated changes, Kazarian recommends report-only behavior by default and an explicit flag before a repair is applied. Keep a run log with the URL, checks performed, proposed or completed changes, and final verdict. Checks requiring editorial judgment—such as creating or reconciling a missing translation—should produce a finding for a person to resolve, not silently invent content.

WordPress implementation details that can trip up checks
Kazarian reports several lessons from his own setup: WordPress’s wpautop can rewrite markup, and the publishing workflow should automate reindexing for both language versions after publication. These are implementation lessons from his site, not universal guarantees about every theme, plugin or indexing integration. Test the rendered page and the CMS record you actually rely on, and verify that post-publication steps cover both translations.
What the reported results do—and do not—show
Kazarian reports a mobile PageSpeed score of 98 for each of his site’s two homepages and zero pages that existed in only one language. Those are author-reported figures for his site; the account does not provide an independent measurement record. He also says he cannot attribute traffic growth to the gate because several other changes happened during the same period.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThe defensible conclusion is narrower: a gate can prevent known, repeatable mistakes from slipping through by making chosen rules executable and enforceable. The reported figures are not a general benchmark, and they do not establish that a publishing gate by itself improves traffic or SEO.
