Choose the customization that matches your goal

Set product-page quantity values with a filter
WooCommerce documents woocommerce_quantity_input_args for modifying the arguments used to build a quantity input. The relevant values are input_value (starting quantity), min_value, max_value, and step (the increment).

The official guide’s example changes the starting value only on a single-product page, then sets the minimum, maximum, and step. That page check matters: without it, a changed starting value may affect quantity inputs elsewhere, including in the cart. Adapt the condition and values to your own product and fulfillment rules rather than treating sample values in documentation as universal settings. Place custom code in a child theme’s functions.php or in a plugin/snippet mechanism that allows custom functions. Do not put it directly in a parent theme’s functions.php: a theme update can overwrite it. A filter callback must return the modified argument value; WooCommerce explains that requirement in its hooks documentation.

This is developer-level customization. If you are unfamiliar with PHP, theme templates, or resolving conflicts, have a WooCommerce developer implement and test the change.
Handle variable products separately
For variable products, WooCommerce documents woocommerce_available_variation for setting the variation’s min_qty and max_qty. The starting value and step still come from the quantity-arguments filter. Set limits that reflect the actual rules for each variation; a limit suitable for one variation may not suit another. The quantity-input guide covers both hooks.

Add quantity fields to shop and category listings
Shop-loop quantity fields are a separate customization from product-page quantity rules. WooCommerce’s developer example uses the woocommerce_loop_add_to_cart_link filter and woocommerce_quantity_input() to place an input beside the add-to-cart button. The example is limited to simple products that are purchasable, in stock, and not sold individually; it should not be assumed to cover every product type or theme layout. See the loop template guide.
If you prefer configuration rather than custom code, WooCommerce’s Shop Page Quantity Manager documentation describes an extension for enabling fields across a shop or selected products and categories, including variable products with attribute selectors. It covers minimums, optional maximums, steps, and stock-aware limits. The exact controls depend on the extension and its installed version.

Change the selector’s appearance in a block layout
In a layout using WooCommerce’s Single Product block, the quantity selector can be shown as a numeric input or a stepper with plus and minus buttons. This changes the presentation, not the underlying quantity rules. See the Single Product block documentation.
WooCommerce documents the Add to Cart + Options block as a beta feature introduced in WooCommerce 10.0. Its availability and beta status are version-sensitive, so check the installed release and the current block documentation before relying on it. For broader layout changes, the Site Editor and block templates may provide the relevant controls; classic themes and page builders have different editing paths.

Check the Cart and Checkout setup before changing behavior
WooCommerce says Cart and Checkout blocks became the default experience for stores started after the 8.3 release in November 2023. That does not mean every existing store uses blocks. The Cart page guide explains that the editing route depends on whether the store has a block theme, a classic/non-block theme, or a page builder. WooCommerce also documents transforming Cart and Checkout blocks back to classic shortcodes in its Cart and Checkout blocks guide.

When a quantity-rule extension is involved, distinguish the value shown in the input from what the cart permits when a shopper changes that value. WooCommerce’s Product Quantity extension guidance warns that block Cart and Checkout quantity changes can use block-cart validation that overrides product quantity validations; legacy cart behavior does not override those validations in the same way. Confirm the current extension behavior and test the actual cart and checkout configuration.

Test the change in the context where it will be used
- Check the product types and pages affected, including simple products, each relevant variation, shop listings, and the cart.
- Verify that the displayed starting quantity, minimum, maximum, and increment match the intended rules.
- Try quantities at and beyond the limits, then confirm what happens when the cart quantity changes.
- Review behavior with the active theme, editor, and quantity-related extensions after updates.
WooCommerce’s developer examples are documented guidance, not a guarantee that every theme or extension uses the same template path. Confirm the installed WooCommerce version and the store’s actual page setup before deploying code or relying on a block control.
