If not—or if the limit error remains—use Telestream’s License Reset Tool, then activate Wirecast on the dedicated PC. Be aware: the self-service reset resets all activations on that license.
Why Wirecast says the activation limit was reached
Telestream says a single Wirecast license can be activated on one computer at a time. Moving it to another computer normally means deactivating it on the original computer before activating it on the new one. The same license can work across Mac and Windows for Wirecast v4 and later, but that does not allow simultaneous use on both. Telestream’s FAQ describes the one-computer rule.

The message does not tell you which computer currently holds the activation or why the limit was reached. If you bought multiple license quantities, Telestream says the permitted number of computers corresponds to those quantities.

Fix the activation limit step by step
1. Deactivate from the original computer if possible
- Open Wirecast on the computer where the license is currently activated.
- Open the license controls. On Mac, Telestream’s support page lists Preferences > Licenses > Deactivate License. On Windows, it lists Preferences > Buy/Upgrade > Deactivate License. In the Wirecast 16 Mac guide, the path is Wirecast > Preferences > Licenses, then Deactivate. Labels may vary by version. See Telestream’s activation instructions and the Wirecast 16 Mac user guide.
- Confirm deactivation, then activate Wirecast on the dedicated PC using your existing serial number or license key.
2. Reset the license if the old computer is unavailable
- Open Telestream’s License Reset Tool.
- Provide the requested license key and the email address or order ID associated with the license.
- Read the reset warning before confirming. The tool resets all activations on that license, not just one machine. If other computers or seats need to remain activated, contact Telestream support about an individual reset instead.
- After the reset, open Wirecast on the dedicated PC and activate it with the existing license.
3. Activate offline only if the PC has no internet connection
The Wirecast 16 guide points users without internet access to Telestream’s offline activation instructions. Offline activation changes how Wirecast verifies the license; it does not change the one-computer-at-a-time limit. Consult the instructions for your Wirecast version in the Wirecast user guide.

If activation still fails
Telestream’s activation page includes operating-system-specific cleanup steps for persistent license errors. Treat these as a follow-up, not the first fix: they involve removing preference or license-related files, and the page does not clearly date the instructions, so paths may differ across current operating systems and Wirecast versions.
Mac follow-up
Telestream’s page says to deactivate from Preferences > Licenses, quit Wirecast, remove the listed Telestream and Vara Software preference files or folder if present, restart, relaunch Wirecast, and activate again. Use the file locations and directions on Telestream’s activation page for your system; do not delete unrelated files.

Windows follow-up
Telestream’s page says to deactivate from Preferences > Buy/Upgrade, quit and uninstall Wirecast, show hidden folders, remove the specified Telestream XML and Vara Software preferences, restart, download Wirecast again, and activate. Because uninstalling and deleting files are more involved, follow the current directions on Telestream’s activation page and contact support if the steps do not resolve the error.
When to contact support or a reseller
- If the official reset and the activation steps fail, contact Telestream support, as directed by its activation troubleshooting page.
- If you bought Wirecast through a reseller and need help recovering the license, Telestream’s FAQ directs you to the reseller.
- If you cannot locate the license details, use Telestream’s purchase-history channels or ask the reseller. Public documentation cannot identify which device currently holds your individual activation.
