For a small Windrose dedicated server, plan on 8 GB of RAM for two players, 12 GB for four and 16 GB for roughly eight players. Use an SSD, with about 35 GB available for a small installation and up to 50 GB on NVMe for an eight-player server. The reference processor is a two-core 3.2 GHz Intel Xeon Scalable (Sapphire Rapids), while desktop-oriented guidance points to a modern quad-core CPU with strong single-thread performance. Windows 10 or 11 64-bit is the documented operating system; Linux support is tied to a Docker route reported after a June 2026 hotfix and should be checked against the current server documentation.
Windrose dedicated server requirements at a glance
The figures below are the practical planning baseline reported by hosting guides that cite the developer’s dedicated-server table. They are not independent benchmark results, and most guides repeat the same underlying figures. Treat them as sizing guidance rather than a guaranteed performance specification.

| Concurrent players | RAM | Storage guidance | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 | 8 GB | About 30–35 GB on an SSD | Small private session or lightly built world |
| 4 | 12 GB | About 35–50 GB on an SSD | Allows more world data and growth than the two-player tier |
| 8 | 16 GB | 50 GB NVMe recommended | Use faster storage and leave room for saves, logs and updates |
| About 10 | 16 GB reference tier | Not separately stated | The 10-player figure is a server-resource reference, not confirmation that the current client supports ten-player sessions |
These are dedicated-server resources only. If the same computer runs the game client and the server, one guide recommends at least 24 GB of total system RAM: 16 GB for the client plus 8 GB for the server. That is a floor, not a guarantee that every large world or background application will remain smooth.
How much RAM does a Windrose server need?
Two players: 8 GB
Eight gigabytes is the commonly reported allocation for a two-player dedicated server. It suits a new or modestly developed world, provided the machine is not also running the client, browser tabs, backup software and other memory-heavy services.

Four players: 12 GB
The reported four-player tier is 12 GB. The extra capacity matters because a server retains more world state as construction, storage and other persistent activity accumulate.
Eight to ten players: 16 GB
Sixteen gigabytes is the cited reference for approximately eight to ten players. Do not read this as proof that the current game client accepts ten simultaneous players: the ten-player number is described as a resource reference, while the supported session limit can change by version.
Why headcount is not the only variable
RAM usage depends on the amount built and the age of the world as well as the number of connected players. A guide notes that a world’s footprint can grow over several months even when the crew size stays constant. Reserve capacity for saves, logs, updates and temporary spikes instead of sizing exactly to the table.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Hosting and playing on one PC
Running a client and a dedicated process together combines two workloads. The cited 24 GB total recommendation assumes 16 GB for the client and 8 GB for the server; it does not leave unlimited headroom for the operating system. A machine with 32 GB gives more room for large worlds and normal desktop use, but the game’s own behavior still depends on version and world complexity.
CPU requirements and practical processor choices
The reference server CPU
The official-style table repeated by hosting guides uses a two-core, 3.2 GHz Intel Xeon Scalable processor from the Sapphire Rapids family as its reference. No verified benchmark maps that exact server part to a particular Ryzen or Intel Core model, so it should be treated as a reference point rather than a buying guarantee.

Desktop guidance
Desktop-oriented guides advise a quad-core processor, giving an Intel Core i7-8700K or AMD Ryzen 7 2700X class chip, or better, as examples. Another guide emphasizes single-thread performance over simply adding cores. In practice, a newer quad-core or better desktop CPU with strong per-core speed is a safer choice than an older many-core chip with weak single-thread performance.
What the CPU must handle
- Simulation and world updates for every connected player.
- Save operations and persistent-world activity as the map grows.
- Networking, logging and any other services sharing the host.
CPU load can vary with version and world state, so avoid treating the two-core reference as a promise that any two-core desktop system will deliver the same result.

Storage: capacity and drive speed
Capacity ranges
Reports differ between an approximately 30 GB and 35 GB starting requirement. The 35 GB figure matches the official-style table, while 30 GB appears in desktop guidance. Present that as a 30–35 GB minimum range for a small server, not as two different game editions.
For four players, guidance expands to roughly 35–50 GB. For eight players, 50 GB on an NVMe drive is the recommended target. These figures should cover the server installation and normal working room, but a long-running world, backups and update staging can require substantially more free space.
Why SSD or NVMe matters
Slow disks are a commonly reported source of server problems. An SSD reduces the latency of loading world data, writing saves and handling updates; NVMe is the preferred tier in the eight-player guidance. Keep the server’s data, saves and logs on the fast drive rather than placing the active world on a slow external disk.

Operating-system support: Windows versus Linux
Documented Windows path
The documented operating systems are Windows 10 and Windows 11, 64-bit. Older guides describe the native dedicated server as Windows-only and report no native Linux binary. If you need the least ambiguous setup, use a supported 64-bit Windows host and follow the current server documentation.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesLinux and Docker status
A fan-maintained wiki reports that Hotfix 0.10.0.7, released June 25, 2026, added official Docker images with Linux-server support. A hosting guide names the image windroseserver/windroseserver:latest. However, that information comes from secondary reporting; the official guide snapshot available for version 0.10.0.5.120 was last updated May 18, 2026, before the hotfix.
Linux support is therefore a version-sensitive qualification, not an unconditional requirement claim. Before deploying, open the current DedicatedServer.md supplied with the server tool and confirm the image name, environment variables, volume paths, networking instructions and supported game version. Do not assume that a previously working container remains valid after an update.
Compatibility layers
Some older Linux guides run the Windows binary through a compatibility layer. That approach is different from native Linux support and can add troubleshooting variables. Prefer the current Docker instructions if they are present and maintained for your server version; otherwise use the documented Windows route.
Bandwidth and network planning
Hosting guides sometimes suggest roughly 20 Mbps of upload bandwidth for a stable server, but this number is not tied to a verified primary measurement. Treat it as an unconfirmed planning estimate rather than a published requirement.

Whatever connection you use, check the upload rate at the actual host, not only the advertised download speed. Also account for other traffic such as cloud backups, streaming and household use. A wired Ethernet connection, a stable public address or correctly configured port forwarding, and firewall rules that allow the server process are sensible operational precautions; the exact ports and protocol should come from the current DedicatedServer.md, not from a generic game-server list.
Installing the dedicated server
Use the official Steam tool
The server is distributed as the free Windrose Dedicated Server tool on Steam. Its Steam application ID is 4129620. After installation, the server root includes DedicatedServer.md, which is the authoritative place to check version-specific launch arguments and network settings.
- Install the “Windrose Dedicated Server” tool through Steam, or use SteamCMD with application ID
4129620if you administer a headless machine. - Open the installed server directory and read
DedicatedServer.mdbefore creating a world. Confirm the required game version and any current configuration-file names. - Choose an SSD or NVMe location with at least 35 GB free for a small installation; plan for 50 GB or more for an eight-player server and future saves.
- Allocate RAM according to the expected concurrent population: 8 GB for two, 12 GB for four, or 16 GB for approximately eight players.
- Configure the server name, world and access controls using the labels and syntax documented in that file. Avoid copying settings from an older guide without checking their current names.
- Start the server, connect from a separate client and verify that players can join, saves persist after a restart and the firewall or router is not blocking the documented traffic.
- Record the installed game version and keep a tested backup before applying a hotfix or changing the container image.
The Steam tool and application ID are stable identification details; launch switches and configuration options can change, so the shipped documentation takes precedence over third-party tutorials.
Choosing hardware by use case
| Use case | Recommended starting point | Important caveat |
|---|---|---|
| Two-player dedicated host | 8 GB RAM, SSD with 35 GB available, modern CPU | World growth and other services can consume the remaining capacity |
| Four-player dedicated host | 12 GB RAM, 35–50 GB SSD space, quad-core desktop-class CPU | Leave free disk space for saves and updates |
| Eight-player dedicated host | 16 GB RAM, 50 GB NVMe target, strong single-thread CPU | Use the current supported player limit; the ten-player RAM note is not a client-limit confirmation |
| Host and play on one PC | At least 24 GB total RAM; 32 GB provides more operating headroom | 16 GB is assigned to the client plus 8 GB to the server in the cited guidance |
| Linux host | Use the current Docker instructions only if present in the shipped documentation | Docker support was reported after the May guide snapshot and can change with hotfixes |
Common sizing mistakes and fixes
Buying for today’s player count only
A two-player world that is actively built for months may need more memory and disk than a new two-player world. Start at the published tier, monitor usage and expand before the host begins swapping or running out of free space.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Confusing server RAM with total PC RAM
The 8 GB, 12 GB and 16 GB figures describe the server allocation. They do not mean a computer with exactly 8 GB can comfortably run Windows, the game client and the server together. Use the separate 24 GB combined-host guidance when one machine does both jobs.
Best Value
Using a slow or nearly full disk
Moving the installation and active world to an SSD or NVMe drive is the first corrective step when saves or loading become erratic. Keep a free-space margin instead of filling the drive to the stated minimum.
Assuming Linux support is permanent
The June 25, 2026 Docker report is newer than the guide snapshot, but it is not confirmed by the primary page cited here. Re-check DedicatedServer.md after every major hotfix and pin a known-good image version when the documentation permits it.
Relying on an unverified bandwidth number
The 20 Mbps upload suggestion is unresolved. Measure the host’s real upload capacity under load, reserve bandwidth for the server and backups, and use the game’s current documentation for networking details.

The most defensible baseline is the RAM ladder, the 3.2 GHz Xeon Scalable reference, the 35 GB official-style storage figure, Windows 10/11 64-bit, and the Steam application ID 4129620. The 30 GB storage figure is a lower value repeated by some desktop guides, so planning for 35 GB is safer.
Linux support is the most volatile item because it reportedly changed in Hotfix 0.10.0.7 after the official guide snapshot. The ten-player RAM note is also narrower than it first appears, and the 20 Mbps upload figure lacks verified attribution. Check the current guide at playwindrose.com/dedicated-server-guide and the copy of DedicatedServer.md installed with the server whenever you deploy or upgrade.
