Windows 11 Widgets: Show the Button or Manage Cards

Control the Widgets taskbar button separately from the cards inside the Windows 11 Widgets board.

To show or hide the Widgets button, right-click an empty area of the taskbar, choose Taskbar settings, then switch Widgets on or off under Taskbar items. To add or remove a card inside the Widgets board, use the board’s widget picker or that card’s menu instead; these are separate controls.

Show or hide the Widgets button on the taskbar

  1. Right-click an empty area of the taskbar and select Taskbar settings.
  2. Under Taskbar items, set Widgets to On to show the button or Off to hide it. You can also open Settings > Personalization > Taskbar directly. Microsoft’s taskbar guidance documents this setting.

Hiding the button does not uninstall Widgets or remove its board. If the button is hidden, open the board with Windows key + W or, on a supported touch screen, swipe in from the side. Microsoft also describes selecting the Widgets area on the taskbar when it is visible. See Microsoft’s Widgets guidance.

Add a widget card to the board

  1. Open Widgets from the taskbar or press Windows key + W.
  2. Select the + button to open the widget picker.
  3. Choose an available widget to add it to the dashboard. The picker shows widgets installed on the device; Microsoft says supported widgets can also be discovered and installed from the Widgets page in Microsoft Store.

Widgets are glanceable, dynamic cards. Examples include weather, news, stocks, and photos. The Widgets dashboard and the Discover dashboard are distinct parts of the experience, as Microsoft explains in its Windows Widgets overview.

Remove one card without hiding the taskbar button

  1. Open the Widgets board.
  2. Select the card’s More options button.
  3. Select Remove widget.

This removes that card from the board. It does not change whether the Widgets button appears on the taskbar.

Which setting should you change?

If the setting or label is different

These steps describe the general Windows 11 experience. Windows updates can change interface labels, and managed, restricted, or modified devices may behave differently. If you cannot find the control, search Windows Settings for Taskbar and look under Taskbar items.
