Microsoft’s Windows 11 version 26H1 issue list includes problems that are still mitigated or only partially resolved, alongside issues fixed by later updates. The affected environments are specific: examples include Azure Virtual Desktop hosts using FSLogix, Credential Guard-protected domain accounts, USB Audio Class 1.0 devices, and certain ARM PCs. Microsoft’s release-health pages were last updated October 2, 2026; check them for the latest status before troubleshooting.
Version 26H1 is a hardware-optimized release for select new devices, not a feature upgrade for existing PCs. Microsoft says it will not be offered through Windows Update, and recommends versions 25H2 and 24H2 for enterprise deployment. Microsoft’s Windows 11 version 26H1 release-health page has the current scope and status details.

How to read the 26H1 issue list
Microsoft separates issues that are still active in some form from those it considers resolved. “Mitigated” means a temporary mitigation is documented while work on a resolution continues. “Partially resolved” means a fix addresses some symptoms, but others remain under investigation. “Resolved” means Microsoft identifies an update that fixes the issue. None of these entries means every 26H1 device is affected: match the listed environment and originating update to the device or service in question.

Issues still mitigated or partially resolved
| Issue and status | Affected environment and symptoms | Origin and current action |
|---|---|---|
| Black screen or desktop not loading after sign-in — mitigated | Reports primarily affect some Azure Virtual Desktop hosts using FSLogix; existing profiles may be more affected. Users may see a black screen, fail to load a desktop session automatically, or encounter Windows Explorer crashes. | Microsoft documents manually starting explorer.exe and a Known Issue Rollback route for managed systems. Work on a resolution is ongoing. Follow the version-specific instructions in the official 26H1 issue entry. |
| Domain-joined devices losing secure trust — mitigated | Some machine accounts protected by Credential Guard may lose their secure channel with on-premises Active Directory. This is not a general issue affecting all domain-joined devices. | It can occur after the September 8, 2026 security update or later updates. Microsoft describes a temporary mitigation involving Machine Identity Isolation settings and secure-channel repair; a future update is planned. This is administrator-level guidance; consult the Microsoft entry before changing settings. |
| USB Audio Class 1.0 devices failing to start or produce sound — partially resolved | Limited to USB Audio Class 1.0 devices. Symptoms include device-start failures or no sound. | The September 14, 2026 out-of-band update KB5129194 resolves the multichannel 8-channel or 3D audio symptoms. Other symptoms remain under investigation, according to the current issue entry. |
Issues Microsoft marks resolved
| Issue | Affected environment and symptoms | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Remote Desktop Services instability after KB5124012 | After the September 8, 2026 security update, some environments saw RDS connection failures, sign-in problems, or hangs at “Please wait for the Remote Desktop Configuration.” Related management tools or Windows Update could also become unresponsive. Microsoft says Windows 365 and Azure Virtual Desktop are not affected. | Resolved by the September 14, 2026 out-of-band update KB5129194 and later updates. See the resolved-issues entry. |
| Hyper-V Linux guest host-folder shares using Plan9 | After KB5124012, some HCS-managed virtual machines could start but fail to expose Windows host folders to Linux guests through Plan9. Microsoft names WSL and Claude Cowork among affected applications. Standard Hyper-V virtual machines not using Plan9 were not affected. | KB5129194 and later updates resolve the issue. If an administrator deployed the temporary Group Policy mitigation, Microsoft says to re-enable the policy, install the out-of-band update, and restart. Follow the official remediation instructions. |
| Teams and new Outlook failing on ARM devices | Following updates from August 11, 2026, Teams and new Outlook could fail to launch or close unexpectedly on some ARM PCs, especially new or freshly imaged devices that had not installed Microsoft Store updates. | KB5124012, released September 8, 2026, resolved the issue. An earlier workaround was to update the Auto Super Resolution Package through Microsoft Store. Details are on the resolved-issues page. |
| False notifications that Microsoft Defender was off | After Defender update 4.18.26070.9, notifications could incorrectly say Defender was disabled even though it remained active. | Defender update 4.18.26080.4, released September 17, 2026, fixed the issue. Microsoft records it as resolved on September 30, 2026. See the resolved-issues entry. |

Microsoft’s resolved-issues page also lists July 2026 WSUS synchronization degradation and June 2026 issues involving GIFs in Emoji Panel and the Recycle Bin dialog. These are older resolved entries, not evidence that the problems remain active. What to check before troubleshooting
- Confirm the PC or service is actually running Windows 11 version 26H1; this release is intended for select new hardware rather than general Windows Update upgrades.
- Compare the exact symptom and environment with Microsoft’s entry. An FSLogix profile issue, a Credential Guard-protected machine account, and a USB Audio Class 1.0 device have different scopes and remedies.
- Check whether the originating update and the named fix are installed. KB5129194 resolves several September issues, but it does not make every listed issue resolved.
- For mitigated or partially resolved entries, treat Microsoft’s status and instructions as current only as of the page’s update date. Check the live known-issues page and resolved-issues page before making changes.
