Enable single-finger tapping in Windows 11
- Open Settings by pressing Windows logo key + I, or select Start > Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & devices, then Touchpad.
- Expand Taps.
- Turn on Tap with a single finger to single-click.

The single-finger option is separate from other touchpad behaviors. In the same Taps area, your device may offer:

- Tap twice and drag to multi-select for selecting and moving items.
- Press the lower right corner of the touchpad to right-click for a physical corner press.
- A touchpad sensitivity control.
Enable only the actions you want. Windows describes tapping as a way to select an item; two-finger tapping or pressing the lower-right corner can show additional commands. Some gestures require a precision touchpad, according to Microsoft Support.

If Touchpad or Taps is missing
Not every Windows 11 laptop exposes the same controls in Settings. Microsoft notes that devices without a precision-touchpad indicator may provide enhanced touchpad settings through the manufacturer’s software instead.
- In the Touchpad settings page, check Related settings for Additional settings or Mouse Properties.
- In the window that opens, look for a touchpad tab or a manufacturer-provided touchpad application.
- If you cannot find the tapping control, consult the laptop maker’s support information for the model and installed touchpad software.
Microsoft’s support guidance describes a manufacturer-software fallback, though some labels in that article use older Windows terminology. Treat those paths as alternatives rather than the standard Windows 11 route.

Why the Windows setting is the right first step
Microsoft Learn says, “Windows provides the ability to modify settings in the Taps section of Touchpad settings.” Its Precision touchpad tuning documentation identifies single-finger tapping with the technical setting TapsEnabled. That documentation is aimed at device tuning; for ordinary use, change the user-facing Settings control rather than editing the registry.
