Windows 11 Quick Settings: Lock Button Editing with Intune

Configure DisableEditingQuickSettings to 1 in an Intune Windows device profile to prevent button changes in Quick Settings without hiding the panel.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To stop users from changing the buttons in Windows 11 Quick Settings while keeping the panel available, configure the device-scoped DisableEditingQuickSettings policy to 1 in an Intune Windows configuration profile. Microsoft documents the policy for Windows 11, version 22H2 and later, on Pro, Enterprise, Education, and IoT Enterprise editions.

What the policy changes

DisableEditingQuickSettings prevents users from modifying Quick Settings, including pinning or unpinning buttons. The panel remains available, so users can still access its controls, such as network and volume. Microsoft’s Policy CSP – Start states: “If you enable this policy, the user will be unable to modify Quick Settings.”

This is a device-scoped policy; Microsoft does not document a user-scoped instance of this setting. Its documented applicability is Windows 11 version 22H2 (build 10.0.22621) and later, on Pro, Enterprise, Education, IoT Enterprise, and IoT Enterprise LTSC editions.

Configure the policy in Intune

  1. In the Microsoft Intune admin center, create a Windows device configuration profile and choose the Settings catalog. Microsoft’s Windows device configuration documentation describes the general profile workflow.

The underlying Policy CSP path is ./Device/Vendor/MSFT/Policy/Config/Start/DisableEditingQuickSettings. Microsoft documents the setting as an integer: 1 disables editing, while 0 is the default and allows editing. The equivalent Group Policy setting is under Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Start Menu and Taskbar > Disable editing quick settings. Microsoft also lists a registry mapping at SoftwarePoliciesMicrosoftWindowsExplorer, value DisableEditingQuickSettings; for Intune deployment, use the device configuration policy rather than treating the registry mapping as the recommended method.
