Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallIf Windows 11’s Mobile Hotspot switch flips back to Off as soon as you turn it on, check the hotspot settings first, then work through Windows’ network troubleshooter and your Wi-Fi adapter’s driver and power options. An instant-off switch is different from a hotspot that stays on while connected devices lose internet access; that second symptom needs a separate connection diagnosis.
Confirm that the hotspot itself is switching off
- Open Settings > Network & internet > Mobile hotspot.
- Review the selected internet connection and the sharing method, then turn on Mobile hotspot from this page.
- Watch the switch. If it returns to Off, the hotspot is shutting down. If it stays on while a device cannot connect or browse, note that different symptom rather than treating it as an instant-off problem.
Microsoft’s Mobile Hotspot setup instructions also explain how to choose the connection to share, select Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, and edit the network name, password, and band. A Quick Settings toggle is available too, but use the full Settings page while diagnosing so you can see the selected connection and other options.

Check whether Windows is set to turn the hotspot off when idle
If you need the hotspot to remain available when no devices are connected, look in the Mobile Hotspot settings for an option that turns it off when no devices are connected, and disable that behavior if present. This option and its exact label or location may vary by Windows build; community guidance discusses it, but it is not established as a control that every PC exposes. If the switch turns off immediately even with a device connected, continue with the other checks.
Run Windows’ network troubleshooter
Microsoft’s recommended general starting point for Windows 11 network problems is the automated Network and Internet troubleshooter in Get Help. Open Get Help, run the Network and Internet troubleshooter, and follow its prompts. This is a diagnostic step, not a guaranteed fix for a hotspot that switches itself off.

Microsoft’s Wi-Fi connection troubleshooting guidance also describes checking adapter power management. The available options depend on the Wi-Fi adapter and its driver.
Inspect Wi-Fi adapter power management and driver
- Open Device Manager and expand Network adapters. Identify the Wi-Fi adapter actually installed in the PC.
- Open the adapter’s properties and inspect its available power-management options. If you see Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power, try clearing the checkbox, apply the change, and test Mobile Hotspot again. Not every adapter or driver displays this checkbox.
- Check the adapter’s driver version and whether a supported update or rollback is appropriate for your PC. Prefer the driver supplied for your exact computer or adapter model; there is no single driver version established as a fix for all Windows 11 systems.
A Microsoft Q&A volunteer moderator has recommended checking the wireless driver and testing power-management options for hotspot disconnections. That is community troubleshooting advice, not proof that power management is the cause of an immediately switching-off hotspot.

Test another Wi-Fi band if the hotspot stays on but a client fails
If the hotspot switch stays on but a particular device cannot connect reliably, try the other available band in Settings > Network & internet > Mobile hotspot—for example, 2.4 GHz instead of 5 GHz—and retest that client. One Windows 11 community-thread user reported resolving their issue by changing from 5 GHz to 2.4 GHz. Treat this as a compatibility test for that setup, not a universal fix for an instant-off switch.

- Does the Mobile Hotspot switch itself return to Off, or does it remain on while clients lose access?
- Which internet connection is selected to share, and is the sharing method Wi-Fi or Bluetooth?
- What Wi-Fi adapter and driver version does Device Manager show?
- When did the failure occur, and what steps reproduce it?
If the problem continues, these details give device-specific support a clearer starting point. Avoid undocumented registry edits or generic command sequences when the computer model, adapter, driver, and Windows build are unknown.
