Recent reporting describes a way to set up Windows 11 with a local account: on the Microsoft-account screen, click the smaller Learn more link, then complete the local-account setup. The click opens the route; it does not create the account or finish Windows setup by itself. The method was reported on a fresh, non-Insider installation, so it is not guaranteed to appear on every PC or Windows build.
How to try the Learn more route

Continue Windows 11 setup until you reach the Microsoft-account sign-in screen.

Look for the smaller Learn more link on that screen and click it. Recent PC Gamer reporting describes this action as opening a local-account setup route.

Follow the local-account prompts, including creating a username and password and answering the security questions if requested.

Continue through the remaining Windows setup screens. The link begins the local-account process; it does not complete setup with one click.
The report says the behavior was replicated on a fresh, non-Insider Windows 11 installation. Microsoft’s documentation does not describe this link as a supported account-requirement bypass, so treat it as a reported route rather than a guaranteed option.

What to do if the link is missing
If you do not see Learn more, or clicking it leads to a different screen, use the options actually shown in your setup. The available evidence does not establish a single fallback that works across all current versions and device configurations. Command-based workarounds and installation-media methods have varied; a Rufus-prepared USB installer is a separate reported workflow, not part of the link method.

Its change log does not say that it added, removed, or guarantees the Learn more behavior. Microsoft’s Windows 11 download page identifies 26H2 as the current release.

Local account or Microsoft account?
A local account is specific to one device and can be used to sign in without an internet connection. Its settings, files, and apps are limited to that device. A Microsoft account connects Windows with Microsoft services and can sync settings and files across devices. Microsoft recommends a Microsoft account for service integration, security, and syncing. See Microsoft’s account guidance.

Change account type after setup
You do not have to treat the setup choice as permanent. In Windows, open Settings > Accounts > Your info. A local-account user can select Sign in with a Microsoft account instead; a Microsoft-account user can select Sign in with a local account instead. Microsoft’s local-account conversion flow asks for a username, password, and password hint.
