To include windows from every virtual desktop in Alt+Tab on Windows 11, go to Settings > System > Multitasking > Desktops and set Show all open windows when I press Alt+Tab to On all desktops.
Change the Alt+Tab setting
- Open Start > Settings > System > Multitasking.
- Expand Desktops.
- Find Show all open windows when I press Alt+Tab.
- Select On all desktops.
- Press Alt+Tab. Keep Alt held and press Tab to cycle through the open-window thumbnails; release Alt to switch to the selected window. Microsoft’s Alt+Tab guidance describes this keyboard behavior.
Choose which desktops Alt+Tab includes
The setting offers two choices. Only on the desktop I’m using limits the Alt+Tab list to windows on the current desktop. On all desktops includes windows from every virtual desktop. Choose the first for a shorter, current-desktop list, or the second when you want to switch directly to windows elsewhere.

If the taskbar still behaves differently
The taskbar has its own preference in the same Settings > System > Multitasking > Desktops group. Changing the Alt+Tab option does not change the taskbar option, so adjust that separate setting if you also want taskbar buttons to appear across desktops. Microsoft documents both controls.

For a visual overview of open windows and desktops, press Windows key+Tab to open Task View. Select a window to bring it forward or choose a desktop to switch to it. To move between desktops with the keyboard, press Windows key+Ctrl+Left Arrow or Windows key+Ctrl+Right Arrow. Press Windows key+Ctrl+D to create a desktop. These shortcuts navigate desktops; they do not change which windows Alt+Tab displays. Microsoft lists Task View and virtual-desktop shortcuts.

If you cannot find the option
The documented setting path and labels apply to Windows 11. Labels or availability may differ by Windows version, language, or how a device is managed. Check your Windows version and the current Multitasking settings if the option is missing; Microsoft’s guidance does not establish identical labels for every configuration. The documented procedure does not call for a restart or registry change.
