To check your Windows 11 PC’s basic hardware specifications, open Settings > System > About. For live performance, use Task Manager; for a broader inventory, open System Information (msinfo32); and for graphics, audio, or DirectX troubleshooting, use the DirectX Diagnostic Tool (dxdiag).
Check the basic specifications in Settings
The About page is the quickest place to find a computer’s model, processor, installed memory, system type, and Windows edition and version. Microsoft documents these device details for Windows 11 and Windows 10 in its guide to finding information about a Windows device.

- Right-click Start and select Settings.
- Go to System > About.
- Under Device specifications, look for the processor, installed RAM, and system type. The device model appears on the About page beneath the device name.
- Under Windows specifications, find the Windows edition and version.
For drive space, return to Settings > System > Storage. If the PC has multiple drives, open Advanced storage settings > Storage used on other drives to check the other drives’ available space. About is a summary, not a complete component inventory.

See CPU layout and live activity in Task Manager
Task Manager is useful when you need to see CPU structure or what the PC is doing now. Microsoft’s documented procedure identifies the Cores and Logical processors fields in the CPU view.

- 1.1 GHz (boost up to 2.4GHz) Intel Celeron N5030 Quad-Core
- Right-click Start and select Task Manager, or press Ctrl+Shift+Esc.
- Select Performance, then choose CPU.
- Read Cores and Logical processors. Select the memory, disk, Wi-Fi, or GPU views to see their current activity.
The graphs show current resource use. They are not a full hardware specification or a substitute for a component’s model information.
Use System Information for a broader inventory
System Information gathers details about hardware, system components, and the software environment. Microsoft describes it as a way to view this information when diagnosing computer problems.

- 256 GB SSD of storage.
- Multitasking is easy with 16GB of RAM
- Equipped with a blazing fast Core i5 2.00 GHz processor.
- Search Windows for System Information, or press Windows+R, type
msinfo32, and press Enter. - Browse System Summary, Hardware Resources, Components, or Software Environment for the detail you need.
- If driver status is important, run the tool as administrator. Microsoft notes that without administrator privileges some drivers can appear stopped when they are not.
System Information does not provide hardware information in Safe Mode. The fields shown can vary, and the inventory does not establish whether a particular part is compatible with an upgrade. For those decisions, check the PC or component manufacturer’s compatibility documentation. See Microsoft’s System Information tool description.
Check DirectX details or save a diagnostic report
Use DxDiag when troubleshooting DirectX, sound, or video. Microsoft’s DirectX instructions explain how to view the version and collect information for troubleshooting.

- 14" diagonal, 1366x768 resolution, HD BrightView LED, Glossy NON-TOUCH Display
- Search the taskbar for dxdiag and open DirectX Diagnostic Tool.
- On the System tab, read the DirectX version.
- Select Save All Information to create a report to share with a support person.
You do not need to install a separate DirectX version just to check this value. Microsoft says Windows 10 and Windows 11 already include the latest DirectX available for that Windows version; DxDiag reports the relevant version.

A specifications page tells you what is installed; an eligibility check determines whether the PC meets stated requirements. Microsoft lists Windows 11 minimums that include a 1 GHz or faster processor with at least two cores and an approved CPU, 4 GB of RAM, 64 GB of storage, DirectX 12-compatible graphics with a WDDM 2.0 driver, and a display requirement. Some features, apps, or additional hardware may require more. Review the full, current list on Microsoft’s Windows 11 system requirements page.

Microsoft’s PC Health Check guidance describes device health, storage, battery-capacity and device-specification features, as well as Windows 11 eligibility checks for devices currently running Windows 10. The app may explain a compatibility issue, and a safeguard hold can delay an upgrade. Check Microsoft’s PC Health Check instructions for current features and how to obtain the app.
