Disabling Connected User Experiences and Telemetry (DiagTrack) affects the diagnostic-data events and troubleshooting logs that the service manages, but Microsoft does not publish a definitive list of Windows 11 features that break when DiagTrack alone is disabled. It is not documented as a switch for every kind of Windows reporting: Windows Error Reporting separately manages crash reporting and crash dumps.
What Connected User Experiences and Telemetry does
Microsoft describes Windows diagnostic data as structured events and additional troubleshooting logs managed by Connected User Experiences and Telemetry. The data can cover device and operating-system attributes; performance or quality signals such as crashes and hangs; compatibility and upgrade-readiness information; driver data; and Microsoft Store performance. Depending on diagnostic-data settings, it can also include additional device and health details, app activity, Microsoft browser activity, and enhanced crash reporting. These are documented categories of diagnostic data, not evidence that every category depends exclusively on DiagTrack. Microsoft’s diagnostic-data guidance explains the categories and management controls.

Microsoft says diagnostic-data transfers to its data-management services use TLS encryption and certificate pinning. That describes protection in transit; it does not by itself establish what data is collected or how long it is retained.

Because DiagTrack manages diagnostic-data events and troubleshooting logs, disabling it can affect those functions. The available Microsoft documentation does not specify a complete set of resulting failures for Windows 11 consumer PCs, nor does it establish that every device or build will show the same effect.

Microsoft also documents blocking the service’s listed endpoints as a way to prevent diagnostic and usage information from being sent through those endpoints. Endpoint blocking is a different intervention from disabling the service, and the documentation does not say either one stops every possible reporting path. See diagnostic-data endpoint and policy guidance and the Windows 11 Enterprise endpoint list.
What disabling DiagTrack does not establish
It does not necessarily turn off all crash reporting
Windows Error Reporting is a separate component that manages crash reporting and crash dumps. Microsoft documents its own endpoints and controls, distinct from Connected User Experiences and Telemetry. Disabling DiagTrack therefore should not be treated as proof that Windows Error Reporting or all crash submissions have stopped. Microsoft’s diagnostic-data documentation and its Windows 11 endpoint guidance distinguish these systems.

It is not documented as a cause of activation, networking, or Store failure
Microsoft’s reviewed guidance does not support a general claim that disabling DiagTrack alone breaks Windows, Windows Update, Store downloads, activation, network connectivity, or app licensing. Its essential-services guidance associates activation risks with other services, including Windows License Manager and Software Protection Platform, and networking loss with disabling networking. It also warns separately that disabling Services Configuration can affect apps that rely on that service. Those effects should not be attributed to DiagTrack. See Microsoft’s Windows Essential Services and Connected Experiences Guide.

Service disablement versus Windows diagnostic-data controls
If your goal is to limit diagnostic data, Windows provides diagnostic-data settings and, for managed devices, Group Policy or mobile device management (MDM) controls. These control the diagnostic-data configuration; they are not the same thing as disabling a service. Microsoft’s documentation describes required and optional diagnostic-data settings and organizational management options, but does not recommend service disablement as an equivalent substitute.

| Approach | Documented scope | Important distinction |
|---|---|---|
| Disable DiagTrack | Affects the diagnostic-data events and troubleshooting logs the service manages. | Microsoft does not provide a complete feature-breakage list for disabling it on Windows 11 consumer PCs. |
| Change diagnostic-data settings or organizational policy | Controls required and optional diagnostic-data configuration through Windows settings or Group Policy/MDM. | Changing these settings is not the same as disabling the service. |
| Block listed telemetry endpoints | Prevents diagnostic and usage information from being sent through the documented endpoints. | Endpoint blocking is not identical to service disablement and does not establish that every reporting path is stopped. |
| Windows Error Reporting controls | Apply to the separate crash-reporting and crash-dump component. | Do not assume that changing DiagTrack also disables Windows Error Reporting. |
Practical takeaway
The narrow, evidence-based answer is that disabling DiagTrack can affect the diagnostic events and logs it manages. Microsoft’s public documentation does not say exactly which Windows 11 features will fail as a result, and it distinguishes DiagTrack from Windows Error Reporting and from other services tied to activation, networking, or app configuration. For a privacy goal, use the documented diagnostic-data settings or organization policies and consider reporting paths separately rather than treating one service switch as an all-purpose telemetry control.
