These checks can identify a setting-related change; they do not prove every persistent tint is a software problem.
First, identify what kind of screen problem you have
A steady color cast across the desktop is different from a brief error screen followed by a restart. Also note whether the tint affects the laptop’s built-in panel, one external monitor, or every display, and whether it began after a setting, driver, display connection, or HDR change. Those clues help narrow the checks, but do not establish a cause on their own.

If Windows is showing an error screen and restarting, skip to the stop-code troubleshooting section below. A tinted desktop should be investigated as a display-color issue instead.
Turn off Night light temporarily
Night light shifts the display toward warmer colors. Check it first because it is a built-in setting that can change the screen’s appearance.

- Open Settings > System > Display.
- Turn Night light off temporarily, if it is on, and check whether the tint changes.
- Open the Night light settings and check whether a schedule is switching it on automatically. Disable or adjust the schedule while testing.
- If you intentionally use Night light, adjust its strength rather than leaving the feature off permanently.
If Night light is unavailable or grayed out, the display driver or hardware may not support it. Microsoft notes that the feature is unavailable with some drivers, including DisplayLink and Basic Display, and recommends checking for a suitable driver. Check whether Color filters are enabled
Color filters deliberately alter the screen palette as an accessibility feature. Microsoft Support explains: “Color filters change the color palette on the screen and can help you distinguish between things that differ only by color.”

- Open Settings > Accessibility > Color filters.
- Turn Color filters off temporarily if you do not intentionally use one.
- Check the screen again. If the appearance changes, you have identified an enabled filter as a factor.
Color filters are separate from Night light: check both settings rather than assuming one controls the other. See Microsoft’s Color filters instructions.
Review the color profile for the affected display
Windows lets you select, add, and remove color profiles for displays, and choose a default profile. A profile can affect color rendering, so review it if the tint began after a profile change. Microsoft does not say that one particular profile universally fixes a blue cast.

- Open Settings > System > Display > Color profile.
- Select the display that looks tinted, especially if more than one screen is connected.
- Review the selected profile. If you recently changed it, note the current selection and consider restoring the previous or default profile.
- Use Calibrate display when your goal is color calibration, not as a guaranteed repair for an unexplained tint.

Check HDR and Night light together, if your display supports HDR

- Open Settings > System > Display > HDR.
- Test the display with HDR off, then check Night light separately or reduce its strength.
- Compare the result with the original appearance before deciding whether either setting is involved.
Microsoft documents an HDR and Night light color issue involving red tint or oversaturation and recommends reducing Night light strength or turning it off for that scenario. That documented example does not establish HDR as the cause of a blue tint. See Microsoft’s HDR settings guidance.
Update the display driver when controls are missing or the tint followed a driver change
If a display control is unavailable, or the problem began after a driver change, look for a driver suited to the exact PC or graphics hardware. Use Windows Update or the computer or graphics-hardware manufacturer’s official support channel. Microsoft recommends driver updating when relevant display controls are missing or unavailable in its display guidance. Avoid relying on third-party driver-updater claims.

Compare displays and hardware symptoms before seeking repair
If only an external monitor looks tinted, check its own picture or color controls. Where practical, reconnect it and compare another cable, port, or display. Change one thing at a time so you can tell whether the appearance changes.
If the tint also appears on the built-in panel, is visible before Windows loads, or remains after you have checked the settings, contact the computer or monitor manufacturer or a qualified repair provider. These checks can help distinguish a display-specific symptom from a Windows setting, but they cannot identify a failed component by themselves. Do not assume that a panel, graphics card, or cable needs replacement without a diagnosis.
If the screen is an error screen followed by a restart
Windows 11 stop-code screens can vary in color and messaging by version. A brief error screen followed by an unexpected restart is not the same symptom as a continuously tinted desktop. For recurring restarts, Microsoft’s stop-code troubleshooting guidance includes removing recently added hardware, trying Safe Mode if startup is difficult, checking Device Manager, installing Windows updates, and considering recovery options.
