These five reader-recommended apps make specific Windows 11 tasks more convenient: scheduling light and dark themes, controlling app volume, transferring files across devices, changing how Alt+Tab works, and accessing a calendar. They customize or replace parts of the Windows experience; they are not fixes for crashes, malware, slowdowns, or damaged system files.
Which app fits the Windows 11 task you want to improve?
| App | What it does | Platforms or scope described | Customization or price listed by Windows Central |
|---|---|---|---|
| Auto Dark Mode | Schedules changes between light and dark themes, such as switching to dark mode after sunset. | Windows PC | No price stated. |
| EarTrumpet | Controls volume for devices and individual applications. | Windows PC | No price stated. |
| Blip | Sends and receives files across devices. | Windows, iOS, and Android | No price stated; transfer benchmarks and network requirements were not reported. |
| AltTabby | Replaces the Windows 11 Alt+Tab experience with a customizable window switcher. | Windows PC | Five selectable views; listed at $7.99, reduced from $9.99, in Windows Central’s August 19, 2026 article. |
| Calendar Flyout | Restores a Windows 10-style calendar flyout, displays events, and lets users create events without opening a separate app. | Windows PC | Listed at $3.99 in Windows Central’s August 19, 2026 article. |
The roundup came from Windows Central, where community members and subreddit readers suggested apps and the author added AltTabby and Blip. It is a recommendation list, not a controlled comparison or performance test. Read the Windows Central article.

For automatic light and dark themes: Auto Dark Mode
If you routinely change Windows appearance as daylight changes, Auto Dark Mode can schedule the switch instead. The example in Windows Central is enabling dark mode after sunset. The article does not specify its current settings, supported Windows builds, or how it handles every app’s theme.

EarTrumpet is the pick for adjusting audio levels at a more granular level: it controls both devices and applications. That is distinct from changing a system theme or replacing the window switcher; the source does not describe additional audio features or compare its controls with Windows’ built-in mixer.
#1 Best Overall
- 1.1 GHz (boost up to 2.4GHz) Intel Celeron N5030 Quad-Core
For moving files between different operating systems: Blip
Blip is described as sending and receiving files among Windows, iOS, and Android devices, making it the cross-platform transfer option in this group. Windows Central likens its role to AirDrop, but does not report transfer speeds, setup steps, network conditions, or tested limits. Treat platform support as the scope described in that article, not a guarantee about every device or current app version.
For a different Alt+Tab workflow: AltTabby
AltTabby replaces the Windows 11 Alt+Tab experience and offers five selectable views, the only explicit multi-view customization count in the roundup. Windows Central also says it can learn which apps you use frequently and keep them close by. The article lists a publication-era price of $7.99, down from $9.99, on August 19, 2026; that is not a verified current price.

- Multitasking is easy with 16GB of RAM
- Equipped with a blazing fast Core i5 2.00 GHz processor.
For calendar access from the taskbar area: Calendar Flyout
Calendar Flyout brings back a Windows 10-style calendar flyout, shows events, and allows event creation without opening a separate application. Windows Central listed it at $3.99 on August 19, 2026. That dated listing should not be treated as today’s price or availability.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

The five apps target convenience and customization, not Windows system repair. Windows Central’s article does not provide independent testing, privacy analysis, current app versions, Windows-build compatibility, or a measured ranking. Check the app’s current listing and requirements before installing or purchasing, especially if a specific Windows build, mobile device, or privacy practice matters to you.
