Some third-party workarounds may skip selected Windows 11 setup checks, but the cited Rufus documentation covers TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot—not a CPU-specific 26H2 bypass. Even if an unsupported PC can be made to install Windows, Microsoft does not recommend that route or guarantee updates, including security updates.
What Microsoft supports for Windows 11 26H2
Windows 11 version 26H2, also called the Windows 11 2026 Update, reached general availability on September 29, 2026. Microsoft is rolling it out in phases to eligible devices running Windows 11 24H2 or 25H2. Eligibility and compatibility safeguards affect when the update appears in Windows Update. Microsoft’s release-health page lists current rollout and issue information.

For an eligible device already running 24H2 or 25H2, Microsoft describes 26H2 as an enablement package: the normal update may be small and complete with a restart. That is the supported update path; it is not evidence that an unsupported processor can bypass setup requirements. Microsoft’s 26H2 announcement explains the release and eligible-device update.

Does Rufus bypass the CPU requirement?
Rufus’s FAQ says Rufus 3.17 and later can bypass the TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot checks by adding BypassTPMCheck and BypassSecureBootCheck keys to the boot image’s LabConfig registry section. Its documentation does not claim that Rufus bypasses the processor check or establish that a CPU-specific method works for 26H2. Read the Rufus FAQ for the utility’s stated scope.

Rufus also discusses possible RAM and storage bypasses using other keys, but says it does not plan to add those options to the utility because systems with insufficient resources may perform poorly, crash, or fail to install updates. This is the project’s documentation and position, not a Microsoft endorsement or a guarantee about how a particular PC will behave.
Do not treat a workaround for TPM or Secure Boot as a CPU workaround. The available Microsoft guidance does not provide an endorsed, CPU-specific 26H2 procedure, and the cited Rufus documentation does not fill that gap. A claim that a particular registry edit or tool will reliably install 26H2 on any unsupported processor is not established by these sources.

Official update versus an unsupported install
| Route | What it means | Support and updates | Main cautions |
|---|---|---|---|
| Eligible Windows Update | Install 26H2 when Microsoft offers it to an eligible 24H2 or 25H2 device, subject to rollout and compatibility safeguards. | Microsoft’s supported update route for eligible devices. | The update may not appear immediately while the phased rollout or a safeguard hold applies. Check current release-health information. |
| Attempted unsupported installation | A manual or third-party method attempts to skip one or more setup checks. The cited Rufus documentation addresses TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot, not a CPU-specific 26H2 bypass. | Microsoft does not guarantee support or updates, including security updates, for unsupported devices. | Compatibility problems are possible. A fresh install from bootable media erases the existing installation and files. |
Microsoft recommends checking eligibility with the PC Health Check app. Its installation guidance says the Installation Assistant checks whether a PC meets Windows 11 requirements; if the device does not qualify, Microsoft recommends leaving it on Windows 10 rather than proceeding as though ordinary installation media were an official bypass. See Microsoft’s Windows 11 installation guidance.

What an unsupported installation can mean
Microsoft warns that installing Windows 11 on a device that does not meet minimum requirements is not recommended and may cause compatibility issues. It says the device will not receive Microsoft support and is not guaranteed updates, including security updates. Its warning also says damage to the PC due to incompatibility is not covered under the manufacturer warranty. These are Microsoft’s stated support terms and cautions; they do not mean every unsupported PC will fail.

Microsoft says an unsupported installation may show a Windows 11 desktop watermark, and Settings may display a notice that the requirements are not met. The notice is a reminder of unsupported status, not proof that updates will continue. See Microsoft’s unsupported-device warning.
Check eligibility and protect your files first
- Check the PC. Use Microsoft’s PC Health Check app and review the Windows 11 requirements before choosing an installation route.
- Back up important files. Booting from installation media to perform a fresh installation erases the existing Windows installation, apps, and files on the drive.
- Use a blank USB drive for media creation. Microsoft lists a USB flash drive with at least 8 GB as one option and warns that its contents will be deleted. The drive is installation media, not a way to bypass the CPU requirement. See Microsoft’s Windows 11 download page.
- Check current release issues. Release-health entries can change; for example, Microsoft lists a USB Audio Class 1.0 issue as mitigated as of September 29, 2026. Check the live Windows 11 release-health page for current status and affected configurations.
Know the rollback window
After an upgrade, Microsoft says the option to go back to the previous Windows version is available for 10 days, provided the files required for rollback remain on the device. After that period, those files are removed. Review Microsoft’s instructions for going back to a previous Windows version before upgrading.
