You can move a Windows 11 25H2 installation to version 26H2 through Microsoft’s enablement-package route, without reinstalling Windows or using separate installation media—if Windows Update offers the feature update to your PC. This route does not bypass hardware requirements: Microsoft does not guarantee that unsupported devices will receive the offer or future updates.
What this upgrade route does—and does not do
Microsoft documents an enablement package for PCs already running Windows 11 24H2 or 25H2. It delivers the 26H2 feature update through Windows Update or, in managed environments, Windows Server Update Services (WSUS), then completes with a restart. It is an in-place update, not a clean installation.

The package is not a way to make an unsupported PC eligible. Microsoft says Windows 11 on devices below the minimum system requirements is not recommended, is not supported by Microsoft, and is not guaranteed to receive updates, including security updates. Microsoft warns: “Devices that don’t meet these system requirements might malfunction due to compatibility or other issues.” Its policy page was updated December 12, 2024. Microsoft’s unsupported-device guidance does not promise that an unsupported 25H2 PC will receive 26H2.

Check the prerequisites before looking for 26H2
- Starting version: The documented enablement-package route applies to Windows 11 24H2 or 25H2, not an arbitrary older Windows release.
- Required update: Install KB5124010, dated September 22, 2026, or a later cumulative update. Microsoft’s KB5124010 page identifies that prerequisite.
- Offer availability: The 26H2 feature update must appear for the device. Microsoft says rollout is phased and availability varies by device; the release-health status was dated September 29, 2026.
Microsoft’s enablement-package instructions set out the supported starting versions and prerequisite. Meeting those prerequisites does not guarantee that an unsupported PC will be offered the update.

Install 26H2 through Windows Update
- Confirm the PC is on Windows 11 25H2. The documented route also covers 24H2, but this procedure is for a 25H2 PC.
- Install KB5124010 or a later cumulative update. Use Windows Update to bring the system up to the prerequisite level if it is not already installed.
- Open Settings > Windows Update. If Windows 11, version 26H2 is offered, select Download & install.
- Restart when prompted. Microsoft’s instructions require a restart; the release-health information says one restart completes the feature update.
If 26H2 is not shown, the device is not currently being offered the update through that route. Microsoft describes a phased rollout, so an absent offer is not evidence that a USB installer or another tool is required—or that the device can be made eligible by bypassing a check.

These are delivery routes, not exceptions to Microsoft’s unsupported-device policy. The enablement-package documentation does not say that using the catalog or WSUS guarantees an offer to a PC below minimum requirements. Not for the documented enablement-package procedure: it uses the existing 24H2 or 25H2 installation and the update channel that offers the package. Microsoft’s separate Windows 11 download page describes Installation Assistant and USB/DVD installation-media options, which are different installation routes. They are not prerequisites for applying the enablement package.
Using separate installation media does not, by itself, remove the hardware-support caveat. Do not treat this in-place update method as a safeguard bypass or as a guarantee of support, compatibility, or future security updates.
