Windows 10 Build 10114 was an unreleased partner preview reported in May 2015, not a Windows Insider release. Video coverage showed a reorganized Start screen: File Explorer and Settings moved beside Power at the lower edge, navigation was collected behind a hamburger button, and more Start controls appeared under Personalization. Microsoft later documented related changes in public Builds 10122 and 10130, but those announcements do not independently verify every 10114 screen shown in the reports.
What was new in the reported Build 10114 preview?
Contemporary reports from Windows Central (May 12, 2015) and Pureinfotech (May 15, 2015, based on a WinBeta video) described Build 10114 as a private build from the winmain_prs channel. Microsoft was not planning to distribute it to Windows Insiders, so its interface should be read as reported preview footage rather than a released specification.
A reorganized Start layout
The reports placed File Explorer and Settings toward the bottom of Start, next to Power and above or alongside All Apps. This replaced the earlier arrangement with a cleaner presentation and concentrated system shortcuts in one area.
Navigation behind a hamburger button
A hamburger button at the upper left was reported as the gateway to the recent-items list, File Explorer, Settings, Power and All Apps. In full-screen Start, that control was particularly important because the layout devoted more space to tiles and less to permanently visible navigation.

Recently added apps and Start behavior controls
Windows Central reported a Recently Added list beneath Most used. It also described a Start section in Personalization with switches for app suggestions, recently opened items and full-screen Start. Pureinfotech likewise reported that full-screen controls had moved into Personalization.
Larger tiles in full-screen mode
The Windows Central account said full-screen Start used larger tiles and the hamburger menu to reach the other navigation areas. This is a contemporary observation from video coverage, not a separate Microsoft specification for Build 10114.

What else did the preview reportedly change?
Pureinfotech’s account also described a redesigned Insider app and Settings changes, including a Devices icon, an updated slider and adjustments to the dark theme. Those details came from the same private-preview video coverage and were not announced by Microsoft as a public 10114 release.
How 10114 relates to public Insider builds
Microsoft’s official announcements for later public builds document similar design work. They provide context for the direction of Windows 10 development, but they do not prove that every feature shown in the 10114 reports shipped in that exact build.

Why the distinction between 10114 and later builds matters
Windows 10 preview builds changed quickly, and private partner builds could contain experiments that were revised or omitted before an Insider release. Build 10114 therefore helps show the design transition, while Builds 10122 and 10130 are the reliable references for features Microsoft publicly documented.
How this fits Microsoft’s broader Start-menu design
In its September 30, 2014 Windows 10 announcement, Microsoft described the returning Start menu as “a new customizable space for your favorite apps and Live Tiles.” The reported 10114 changes follow that approach by giving users more control over full-screen behavior, suggested and recent content, and the location of system shortcuts.

The same announcement positioned the Windows Insider Program for people comfortable with pre-release software whose quality could vary. That context explains why an interesting private build could be documented by technology reporters without becoming an installable Insider release.

Treat download claims or screenshots presented as an official 10114 installer with caution; the documented public alternatives were later Insider builds such as 10122 and 10130.
