Will Xbox Helix Run Series X Games at 240 FPS with FPS Boost?

Project Helix is designed to play Xbox console and PC games, but Xbox has not confirmed FPS Boost or 240 FPS support for Series X games.

No—Xbox has not announced that FPS Boost will let Xbox Series X games run at 240 FPS on Project Helix. Its March 2026 announcement describes Helix as a next-generation console designed to play Xbox console and PC games, but gives no 240 FPS specification or FPS Boost plan for Series X games. Xbox currently says optimized Series X|S games can reach up to 120 FPS, with enhancements varying by game.

What Xbox has announced about Project Helix

In its March 11, 2026 announcement, Xbox said Project Helix is a next-generation first-party console in development, designed to play Xbox console and PC games. Xbox described a custom AMD SoC and work with AMD on next-generation DirectX and FSR. Jason Ronald, Xbox VP for Next Generation, said Helix is “designed to play your Xbox console and PC games, delivering leading performance and ushering in the next generation of console gaming.”

That announcement does not specify a maximum frame rate, confirm FPS Boost support for Xbox Series X games, or say that any game will reach 240 FPS. Microsoft Game Dev’s March 11, 2026 account likewise describes the console’s broad direction without confirming the 240 FPS claim.

What the 120 FPS figure means

Xbox’s current Optimized for Series X|S page says optimized games use the consoles’ power to deliver “higher, steadier framerates at up to 120FPS while playing.” Xbox also says enhancements vary by game and advises checking with publishers for details. That is information about Series X|S games, not a performance specification for Helix.

Xbox Series X | Disc Gaming Console | 1TB SSD | Includes Wireless Controller, 4K Gaming, 120FPS, Carbon Black
  • FASTEST, MOST POWERFUL XBOX — Experience next-generation performance with 12 teraflops of processing power, delivering smoother gameplay, richer worlds, and faster responsiveness than any previous XBOX.
  • TRUE 4K GAMING UP TO 120 FPS — Enjoy breathtaking visuals with true 4K resolution, HDR, and frame rates up to 120 FPS, plus hardware-accelerated ray tracing for a heightened level of realism.
  • 1TB CUSTOM SSD AND XBOX VELOCITY ARCHITECTURE — Reduce load times dramatically with the custom 1TB NVMe SSD and XBOX Velocity Architecture, enabling lightning-fast performance and seamless world streaming.
  • QUICK RESUME — Seamlessly switch between multiple games and resume exactly where you left off. No more waiting through title screens and loading bars.
  • FOUR GENERATIONS OF GAMES — Play thousands of games from XBOX Series X|S, XBOX One, XBOX 360, and Original XBOX, with many titles enhanced for better visuals and performance on XBOX Series X.

The 120 FPS figure therefore does not prove Helix will be limited to 120 FPS, but it also does not support a claim of 240 FPS. The Helix announcement and Series X|S page describe different products and provide no basis for converting one figure into a Helix capability.

What remains unknown

The published information does not establish whether FPS Boost will apply to Series X games on Helix, which games would be supported, or what frame rates they might achieve. It also does not specify Helix’s maximum refresh-rate output, resolution tradeoffs, display connections, or consumer release date.

Xbox said it planned to begin shipping alpha hardware to developers in 2027. That is a developer-hardware milestone, not a consumer launch date. Until Xbox publishes more details, a 240 FPS mode should be treated as unconfirmed—not as a feature that is guaranteed or ruled out.

What to check before buying a display or accessory

A high-refresh-rate display or HDMI accessory cannot enable an unannounced console feature. Before buying hardware specifically for 240 FPS on Helix, wait for Xbox to publish the console’s supported output modes and for game-specific compatibility information. Even if a console supports a particular output, each game’s frame rate and resolution can depend on its own implementation.
