No. The RPCS3 team says it has no plans to develop emulators beyond RPCS3, its PlayStation 3 emulator. That is a statement about the project’s current priorities—not a claim that original Xbox or Xbox 360 emulation is impossible, or a decision about what Microsoft or another development team may do.

What did the RPCS3 team say?

Notebookcheck reported on October 5, 2026, that a user asked the team whether it could assign a small group to fork or develop emulators for the original Xbox and Xbox 360. The report reproduces the question as: “have a small team look into forking and or developing an original Xbox emulator possible also an Xbox 360 emulator too?”

Notebookcheck attributed this reply to the RPCS3 team account: “we have no plans to work on any other emulators besides RPCS3”. It also reported the team’s explanation that it had “no particular interest in Xbox and most of us do not even own an Xbox console”. The report does not identify an individual speaker, and the underlying X post was not directly accessible for independent verification.

What does the answer mean for RPCS3?

The answer rules out a team commitment to start an Xbox or Xbox 360 emulator: the project says its development plans are limited to RPCS3. RPCS3’s FAQ describes its work as developing a PlayStation 3 emulator and explains that improvements to emulator functionality benefit games that use the affected functionality. That is consistent with focusing development on one console platform; it does not establish anything about the technical difficulty or feasibility of emulating Xbox systems.

The FAQ copy available for this context is hosted by a third party and identifies itself as a 2021 release preview, so it is useful as background on the project’s stated scope, not as a current announcement. RPCS3 FAQ.

Does this rule out Xbox emulation on PC?

No. The RPCS3 team’s statement concerns what its own project plans to build. It does not rule out work by independent developers, nor does it announce or rule out a Microsoft program. Notebookcheck discusses the possibility of broader official Xbox emulation on PC in the future, but presents that scenario as speculation—not a confirmed Microsoft commitment or schedule.
