Isaiah Williams has an opportunity to work as the Jets’ No. 2 wide receiver behind Garrett Wilson against the Bears on Oct. 4, 2026, with Adonai Mitchell out because of a finger injury. The report points to a potential short-term role increase for that game—not a confirmed, lasting promotion or a guaranteed jump in targets.
What the Jets’ role report says
A report published by CBS Sports/RotoWire on Oct. 2 said Williams could work as the Jets’ WR2 behind Wilson against Chicago. Mitchell’s absence is the immediate reason for the opening. Williams had already played at least 80% of the Jets’ offensive snaps in each of the two games before the report, though it did not give an exact percentage for either game. That establishes substantial recent playing time; it does not, by itself, establish how many additional targets he will receive.
What the Week 4 injury report adds
The Jets’ Friday, Oct. 2 injury report listed Mitchell and tight end Mason Taylor as out for the Week 4 game, and tight end Kenyon Sadiq as questionable. Those absences could make more routes or targets available, but the team did not specify how those opportunities would be distributed or quantify Williams’s expected workload. Williams’s production through three games
The Jets’ official player log records eight catches for 62 yards and no touchdowns through the first three games of the 2026 regular season:

What to watch before treating him as a fantasy option
- Actual target volume: A high snap share means Williams is on the field, not necessarily that he is receiving a large share of passes.
- How the vacant work is assigned: Mitchell and two tight ends were on the Friday injury report, but the Jets did not say whether their routes or targets would go to Williams.
- Who is available: Mitchell, Taylor, and Sadiq had the statuses reported Friday; later availability updates could change the matchup outlook.
- Production in the role: Williams had eight receptions for 62 yards and no touchdowns through three games, with one catch in Week 3.
Those factors can help assess his opportunity as game day approaches, but the available report does not support a specific target projection, fantasy-point estimate, or claim that his role will remain elevated after Week 4.
