No—current official listings do not say GTA 6 requires a PS5 Pro. Rockstar lists PlayStation 5 as a platform, and PlayStation lists the game for both PS5 and PS5 Pro. The PlayStation Store also labels it “PS5 Pro Enhanced,” but the reviewed official sources do not explain what that means in terms of resolution, frame rate, or graphics modes.
Which consoles are officially listed for GTA 6?
Rockstar’s platform, editions, and versions page, last updated August 18, 2026, lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. PlayStation’s official GTA 6 page names PS5 and PS5 Pro, and says the game will not be available for PS4. Neither company’s listing says the Pro is required.

Rockstar has also said its extended look at the game was captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5, and lists PS5 and Xbox Series X|S for launch. That establishes PS5 as a platform used to present the game; it does not guarantee a particular final frame rate or graphics mode.
What does “PS5 Pro Enhanced” mean?
The PlayStation Store listing labels GTA 6 “PS5 Pro Enhanced.” The label confirms that PlayStation identifies the game as enhanced for Pro, but the reviewed listing does not specify the nature or size of the enhancement.

- Faster Loading - Fast-travel across the map and get back into the game almost instantly with the PlayStation 5 console’s ultra-high-speed SSD and fast load times.
- Stunning Visuals - Experience the vast world in stunning 4K and HDR at 120 FPS (with a 4K and HDR compatible TV or display)
- Breathtaking Immersion - Discover a deeper gaming experience with support for haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and 3D Audio technology.
- Backwards Compatibility - Play over 4,000 PS4 games on PS5. Enjoy faster and smoother frame rates in some of the PS4 console's greatest games.
- Not stated in the reviewed sources: resolution targets, frame rates, graphics settings, or a feature exclusive to PS5 Pro.
- Not established: how large any visual or performance difference will be between the standard PS5 and PS5 Pro.
Do not treat the label as a promise of 60 fps, a specific resolution, or a particular graphics mode unless Rockstar or PlayStation publishes those details.
Does “plays best on PS5” mean the Pro is better?
In a June 24, 2026 PlayStation Blog post, Sony Interactive Entertainment Senior Vice President of Marketing Mary Yee said GTA 6 would “play best on PS5” by taking advantage of PS5 features. This is Sony’s platform-positioning statement, not a quantified comparison of standard PS5 and PS5 Pro performance.
Read that statement separately from the Store’s “PS5 Pro Enhanced” label: neither one, on its own, tells buyers what measurable Pro advantage to expect.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsShould you buy a PS5 Pro just for GTA 6?
If you already own a standard PS5, the current official platform information gives no reason to upgrade solely to meet a stated GTA 6 requirement. Whether the Pro is worthwhile for its broader features or for GTA 6 enhancements that may be specified later is a separate decision; the reviewed official sources do not provide enough GTA 6-specific technical detail to recommend it on performance grounds alone.

PlayStation currently lists November 19, 2026 as the release date for PS5 and PS5 Pro. Because the game is upcoming, check the official PlayStation page for the latest date and regional listing details.
Rockstar lists Standard and Ultimate Editions. It says the physical version contains a code for a digital download, so do not assume it includes a playable game disc; check the specific regional product listing before buying. Rockstar’s edition and format information is the source for those details.
What about PS4 or PC?
PlayStation says GTA 6 will not be available for PS4. Rockstar’s and PlayStation’s cited platform listings name PS5 and Xbox Series X|S; they do not establish a PC launch platform or release date.
