Women in Film India and Google Flow have launched a filmmaking challenge inviting Indian storytellers to make original short films with Flow as part of their creative process. The WIF India × Google Flow Filmathon is open to Indian nationals aged 18 or older; entries can be in any genre and must run no longer than five minutes. Registration opened on 2 October 2026, and the listed submission deadline is 24 October 2026. Check the official Filmathon page for the current rules and dates before entering.
What the WIF India × Google Flow Filmathon is
The Filmathon is an initiative by Women in Film India (WIF India) and Google, built around making original short films with Google Flow as part of the filmmaking process. Flow is presented as a creative tool, not a substitute for the entrant’s own story and creative voice. There is no prescribed genre: participants decide what to make, provided the film meets the challenge’s duration and submission rules.

- Eligibility: Indian nationals aged 18 or older.
- Format: An original short film, with Google Flow used as part of the process.
- Maximum runtime: Five minutes.
- Genre: Open; the official rules do not prescribe one.
The challenge does not mean every part of a film must be generated with AI. The official framing leaves the storytelling and creative decisions with the participant, while requiring Flow to be part of the process. Google’s product announcement describes Flow as a filmmaking tool built around Veo, Imagen and Gemini, with features including camera controls, a scene builder for editing or extending shots, and asset management. Those are Google’s product descriptions, not independent assessments of what the tools can achieve. Google’s Flow announcement dates to 20 May 2025; it describes the product at launch and should not be treated as a current statement of India availability.

Google’s India-localized plans page currently lists Flow access and monthly credit allotments for Google AI plans: 200 credits for Plus, 1,000 for Pro, and either 10,000 or 25,000 for Ultra plan variations. These are listed monthly plan benefits and can change; credit costs may vary by generation, so the allotment should not be read as a fixed number of films. Why Flow is part of the creative process
For entrants, the practical question is not simply whether AI can make a film, but how Flow can support a specific creative choice: developing a scene, extending a shot or shaping a camera move, for example. Google’s announcement describes those capabilities as parts of Flow’s toolkit, while the Filmathon places responsibility for the original idea and creative voice with the filmmaker. The challenge’s open-genre format leaves room for participants to decide where the tool fits in their own workflow.
WIF India CEO and founder Guneet Monga Kapoor said the Filmathon gives filmmakers “a real space to experiment.” Google executive Dr Arathi Sethumadhavan said the initiative aims to see how storytellers expand artistic expression through the technology. These statements were reported by Cinema Express in a report updated 6 October 2026.
