If other devices also cannot join, check the router or ask the network owner for help. A device that connects to Wi-Fi but says “No Internet” has a different problem: it has joined the network, but internet access is failing later in the connection process.
First, identify what is going wrong
Watch what happens when you try to connect. A device that rejects the password has not joined the Wi-Fi network. A network that does not appear in the list presents a visibility or compatibility issue. If the device joins but reports “No Internet,” authentication succeeded; the problem may instead involve the router’s internet connection or later network settings such as DHCP, DNS, a proxy, or a firewall.

Check the network name and current password
Make sure you are selecting the intended Wi-Fi network name (SSID), especially if nearby networks have similar names. Confirm the current Wi-Fi password with the person responsible for the network, or consult the router’s official app, label, or documentation. A router administrator password and a WPS PIN are not the Wi-Fi password. If someone recently changed the Wi-Fi password, a device may still be trying its old saved credentials.

Enter the password as provided, preserving uppercase and lowercase letters, punctuation, and any other characters. Do not rely on a guessed default password. For a work, school, or other managed network, ask its administrator to verify the right network and credentials. TP-Link identifies a password mismatch as one possible cause of authentication failure and advises contacting router support when the wireless password cannot be confirmed: TP-Link’s Wi-Fi connection troubleshooting.
Forget the saved network and reconnect
A stored Wi-Fi profile can keep using credentials that are no longer current. Forgetting the network removes that saved connection from the device; you can then join it again with the verified password.

Windows 10 and Windows 11
- Open Settings > Network & internet > Wi-Fi > Manage known networks.
- Select the network that is failing, then choose Forget.
- Return to the Wi-Fi network list, select that network, and enter its current password.
Microsoft’s instructions are on its Windows Wi-Fi troubleshooting page. Other devices offer similar controls, but menu names and paths vary by operating-system version; use the device maker’s current support instructions if you cannot find the option.

Try another device on the same network
Try joining the same Wi-Fi network with a second phone or computer. This is a useful way to narrow down the problem, not a definitive diagnosis.

- If another device joins: focus on the original device’s saved network profile, Wi-Fi adapter or software, and supported frequency bands.
- If several devices cannot join: check whether the network password or router settings changed, and ask the network owner or administrator for help. If you manage the network, consult the router’s documentation or manufacturer support.
Apple recommends checking other devices’ connection status as part of troubleshooting; see its guidance for iPhone and iPad. Microsoft also includes another-device checks in its Windows troubleshooting steps.
Restart the modem and router if multiple devices are affected
Restarting the network equipment is a reasonable next step if several devices have trouble joining or the connection is otherwise behaving abnormally. It temporarily disconnects everyone using the network, so choose a time when that interruption is acceptable. Follow the manufacturer’s or ISP’s instructions, particularly for managed equipment.

- Unplug the modem and router from power, following any device-specific instructions.
- Wait about 30 seconds.
- Restore power to the modem and wait for it to settle.
- Restore power to the router and allow it to finish starting before testing the Wi-Fi connection again.
If one box combines the modem and router, restart it as a single device rather than treating it as two separate units. Microsoft describes this restart sequence in its Windows Wi-Fi troubleshooting guidance.
Try another Wi-Fi frequency if one is available
Some routers show separate network names for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi. If you see both, try the other one, provided your device supports it. This checks whether the device and router can connect on that band; switching bands does not change the Wi-Fi password.

Device capabilities differ: Microsoft gives the example of a 2.4-GHz-only adapter that cannot connect to a 5-GHz network. Its Windows guide and Apple’s iPhone and iPad guide include trying another supported frequency as a troubleshooting check.
Escalate without making risky router changes
If one device cannot connect to any Wi-Fi network, contact that device’s support provider. Apple advises contacting Apple when an iPhone or iPad cannot connect to any Wi-Fi network. If several devices cannot join one network, or you cannot verify its current password, ask the network owner, router manufacturer, or ISP for help.
Avoid factory-resetting a router as an early response to a rejected-password message: a reset can erase its configuration, and it is not established as a routine first-line fix for this general problem. Changing wireless security settings is also an advanced router-side step, not a default password fix. Microsoft recommends WPA3 when both the router and PC support it, but WPA3 and WPA2/WPA3 options depend on device compatibility. Do not weaken security or change router settings without checking the router documentation and compatibility; see Microsoft’s wireless-network setup guidance.
When a wired test can help
If a computer can connect to the router with Ethernet, a wired internet test may help determine whether a broader connection problem is specific to Wi-Fi. It does not fix a rejected Wi-Fi password, and it requires suitable Ethernet ports or compatible adapters. Microsoft describes wired diagnosis in its Windows Wi-Fi troubleshooting guidance.
