A Samsung device that won’t connect to Wi-Fi usually has a fault at one of four points: the device itself, the router, the radio link between them, or the router’s own connection to the internet. Which fix applies depends first on the kind of Samsung device you have, because menu labels and supported network features differ between products.
Identify which Samsung device you have
Pick the category that matches your product before following any menu path:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Galaxy phone or tablet. Samsung’s Galaxy Wi-Fi guidance covers these devices, and the menu names shift with the One UI version and the country.
- Samsung TV. Samsung’s TV help pages cover the network status screen, a network reset and a wired Ethernet option. Model year matters here, and some older models have band limits.
- A device paired through SmartThings. Pairing a SmartThings-compatible product is a separate process from the device joining your Wi-Fi. A device can be online and still fail to appear in the SmartThings app, so keep the two problems apart.
Samsung’s support pages in Canada, the US, the UK and Latin America give the same core first steps, but the exact labels and screens vary by country, model and software version. Treat any menu path below as a starting point and confirm it against your device’s manual.

Match your symptom to the likely failure point
The symptom tells you which link to test first.
| Symptom | Most likely failure point | First check |
|---|---|---|
| Your network name does not appear in the list | Router band, hidden network, or range | Confirm the router’s band and that the network is broadcasting; check whether other devices see it |
| The password is rejected | Credentials entered incorrectly | Re-enter the network name and password exactly, including capital letters |
| The device connects but shows no internet | Router-to-internet link | Test another device on the same network; on a TV, read the Network Status screen |
| The connection drops repeatedly | Signal strength or distance | Move closer to the router and remove obstructions, then watch whether the drops continue |
| A SmartThings device fails to pair or be discovered | Phone and device on different local networks | Confirm both are on the same Wi-Fi network |
Work through the checks in order
Run these steps in sequence. Most problems are resolved before you reach the last ones, and the later steps carry a cost in saved settings or time.
#1 Best Overall
- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.

- Restart the Samsung device and the router. Samsung’s Galaxy guidance starts here. A router restart disconnects every device on the network for a short time, so warn anyone else using it.
- Test a second device on the same network. Use a phone, laptop or tablet that normally works. If nothing can get online, the problem is the router or your internet service, not the Samsung device. Samsung advises checking the router’s firmware and contacting the router manufacturer if other devices cannot see the network.
- Check distance and obstructions. Walls, large metal objects and microwave ovens between the device and the router reduce signal. Move the device closer and retry before changing any settings.
- Verify the network name, password and band. Re-enter the credentials. Check whether the network is hidden, and confirm that the router’s band is one the device supports (see the TV section below for the one documented exception).
- Reset network settings. Use the Galaxy or TV reset described below. This removes saved Wi-Fi networks and related settings, so you will need to re-enter passwords.
- Test a wired connection (TVs with a LAN port). Connecting the TV to the router or modem with an Ethernet cable bypasses Wi-Fi. This helps isolate the wireless link and can serve as a temporary workaround.
- Use a full factory reset only as a last step. On a TV, Samsung UK’s support material says a factory reset removes downloads and returns settings to their purchased state. Use it only after the other steps fail.
Samsung Galaxy phones and tablets
If your Galaxy will not join a network, Samsung Canada Support’s Galaxy Wi-Fi guidance says: “If your Samsung Galaxy cannot connect to a Wi-Fi network, try restarting your device and Wi-Fi router first.” If that does not help, check whether other devices can see and join the same network. If they cannot, the router is the place to look.
Reset Wi-Fi and Bluetooth settings
When the router and other devices are working, Samsung’s Galaxy guidance includes resetting Wi-Fi and Bluetooth settings. Find the reset option in the Galaxy settings menu (the label and location vary by software version), then reconnect to your network and re-enter the password. Expect any paired Bluetooth accessories to need pairing again.

Samsung TVs
Read the Network Status screen
Samsung TV Network Status can show whether the break is between the TV and the router, or between the router and the internet. On most models it is found under the TV’s Network settings; the exact path varies by model and year. Use the result to choose your next step:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- If the TV cannot reach the router, focus on the TV’s wireless link, the password and the router’s band.
- If the TV reaches the router but not the internet, the problem is upstream. Test another device on the same network before changing TV settings.
Models limited to 2.4 GHz
Samsung’s US TV setup page states that the 2018 NU7100/NU710D, NU7200 and NU7300/NU730D models support only 2.4 GHz networks and will not detect 5 GHz networks. The page is undated, and the limit applies only to those listed models. If your TV is one of them and cannot see a 5 GHz network, enable a 2.4 GHz network on the router. Do not assume the same limit applies to other Samsung TVs or other Samsung products.

Use a wired connection as a diagnostic
If your TV has a LAN port, connect it to the router or modem with an Ethernet cable. Then interpret the result:
- If the wired connection works and Wi-Fi does not, the fault is in the wireless link, the router’s wireless settings, or the TV’s wireless compatibility.
- If both the wired and wireless connections fail and other devices are also offline, the router or internet service is the likely cause.
SmartThings-connected devices
SmartThings pairing has its own requirements, separate from the device’s Wi-Fi connection.

Put the phone and device on the same local network
For Wi-Fi devices discovered on the local network, Samsung says the phone running the SmartThings app and the target device must be on the same local network. Some products must first be set up in their own native app before SmartThings can find them.
Restart in order
Restart the SmartThings app, the phone and the target device, then retry. Where available, a temporary Ethernet connection can help isolate whether the fault is in the wireless network. Remember that a router restart disconnects devices that are currently connected.

Samsung Account and Bluetooth Low Energy setup
Samsung UK describes pairing with the same Wi-Fi network and a Samsung Account for the documented setup flow. On certain newer TVs, setup can also use Bluetooth Low Energy. If pairing fails at the Bluetooth stage, check that Bluetooth is enabled on the phone and that the TV model supports this method.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Weak signal and range extenders
Samsung’s support guidance suggests moving the device closer to the router, or using a Wi-Fi repeater, when the signal is weak. A repeater extends coverage but does not fix a router-to-internet fault, and Samsung does not endorse a specific product. Confirm that a repeater supports the Wi-Fi standard and band your router uses before buying one.
Compare the reset options
| Action | What it changes | What you lose | When to use it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Restart device and router | Clears temporary connection faults | Connections for a few minutes | Always the first step |
| Galaxy Wi-Fi and Bluetooth reset | Clears saved network and Bluetooth settings | Saved Wi-Fi networks and paired Bluetooth devices | After other devices show the network is working |
| TV network reset | Resets the TV’s network settings | Saved network connection | After the Network Status check and the wired test |
| TV factory reset | Returns the TV to its purchased state | Downloads, apps and other settings (Samsung UK) | Only as a last step |
When the router or internet service is the cause
If several devices fail at once, or the wired TV test also fails, stop changing Samsung settings. Check whether the router’s lights show an internet connection, restart the modem and router following your internet provider’s instructions, and check the router’s firmware. Contact your internet provider if the outage continues or if the router reports no upstream connection. Replacing the router is not a justified first step; do it only if testing shows the router itself is the fault.
