Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallOutdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down
One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchFirst identify what is actually turning off: a Roku TV screen going dark, a separate Roku player restarting, a logo that keeps returning, or a screen that shuts off after a set interval. Each points to a different fix. Check the matching symptom below rather than treating every shutdown as the same fault.
Match the symptom to the device
A Roku TV is a television with Roku software built in. A Roku streaming player or Streaming Stick is a separate device connected to a TV. Note what happens when the problem occurs: whether the TV screen goes dark, the Roku logo reappears, a status light flashes, or an on-screen warning appears. That distinction determines which checks are relevant.

| What you see | What to check |
|---|---|
| A Roku TV screen turns off after a recognizable interval | Sleep timer |
| A separate player restarts when the TV is switched on | Whether the player gets power from the TV’s USB port |
| Flashing red light or low-power message on a player | Insufficient power |
| Solid red light or overheating warning on a player | Heat and ventilation |
| A Roku TV repeatedly shows a logo, stays dark with a flickering power light, or restarts during setup | TV software restart loop |
| The TV switches off after remote input | Remote power-control settings |
Check a Roku TV’s sleep timer
If the screen turns off after a consistent period, check whether a sleep timer is set. On the Roku TV, go to Home > Settings > System > Time > Sleep timer. Change the interval or cancel the timer. A timer is one explanation for timed screen-off, not proof that it is responsible for an irregular shutdown. Roku also documents ways to access the setting through a shortcut tile, an app’s Options menu, or voice commands; the Settings path is the clearest place to start. Roku Support: How to use a sleep timer to turn off your Roku TV.
Check how a separate player gets power
Player restarts when the TV turns on
If your Roku player is plugged into the TV’s USB port, the TV may cut power to that port when switched off or put into standby. The player then starts again when the TV restores power. Connecting the player to a wall outlet instead avoids depending on the TV’s USB power state. Roku’s supported-device examples are model-specific, so check your exact player rather than assuming every model behaves the same way. Flashing red light or low-power message
A flashing red light or an on-screen low-power or insufficient-power message points to inadequate power, not overheating. Roku’s guidance is to restart the player, use the supplied USB cable, try another TV USB port, or connect the player to wall power. If the TV USB port cannot supply enough power, Roku’s power-on guidance says a 5V 1A USB power adapter can be used. Check your exact player’s requirements and the manufacturer’s instructions before using or substituting an adapter; the low-power guidance cited here is from Roku Support Australia. Check the picture and status light
If the player’s light is white but the TV has no picture, the player may still be on; check that the TV is set to the HDMI input the player uses. No light can indicate that the player has no power. A solid red light is Roku’s heat warning, so follow the overheating steps below rather than treating it as the flashing-red low-power signal.

Respond to an overheating warning
A player can feel warm during normal use. Roku Support says, “It is normal for your Roku player to feel warm to the touch. This is by design and not a cause for concern unless you see the warning below.” Look for the specific heat indicators: a solid red light or an on-screen “Your device is overheating” warning. Roku Support: What to do if the red light is on or you see a ‘Your device is overheating’ message.
- Unplug the player carefully and let it cool for at least 10 minutes.
- Improve ventilation: move it out of direct sunlight, enclosed spaces, soft surfaces, and away from stacked electronics.
- If it is a Streaming Stick, an HDMI extender can move it away from the hot area behind the TV. Roku describes a free extender option, so buying one is not a required first step.
- If the solid red light or warning remains after cooling and repositioning, unplug it and repeat the cooling process once. If the issue persists, stop using the player and contact Roku Support.
Use the restart-loop steps only for a Roku TV
Roku’s UK support guide associates a repeated Roku or TV logo followed by a restart, a dark screen with a repeatedly flickering power light, or restarting during setup with TV software that failed to load correctly or became stuck during an update. This is different from a separate player losing power.

- If Recovery Mode will not start, or the TV continues restarting after software recovery, contact Roku Support or the TV manufacturer.
Roku Support UK: My Roku TV keeps restarting or is stuck on the logo screen
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Check remote power control if the TV itself switches off
Some Roku voice remotes use infrared (IR) or HDMI-CEC to control a TV’s power. If the television turns off after a remote action, check for accidental input and review TV-control setup. Roku recommends rerunning TV-control setup and checking the relevant IR or CEC behavior. This is a secondary check when the timing points to a remote command, not a default explanation for a player reboot or a TV restart loop.
