First check whether the entire station turned off or only AC, DC, or USB stopped. Record the display warnings and error code before resetting or changing settings; the right fix depends on the exact model.
Start by identifying what shut off
Note what happened and when. Did the display go dark, or did only one output group stop? Did the shutdown happen as soon as an appliance started, after a period without use, or while a small device was connected? These distinctions help narrow the cause but do not, by themselves, diagnose a fault.

- Whole station: Check the battery level, display warnings, temperature, and any error code.
- One output group: Identify whether AC, DC, USB, or USB-C stopped. A protection or low-load setting may affect only that output.
- Timing: A shutdown at appliance start points toward load demand; one after inactivity may involve an idle timeout or low-power cutoff.
Before resetting anything, photograph or write down the battery percentage, warning icons, and code. Look up the code and reset procedure in the manual or official app for your exact model. A code or reset sequence from another product may not apply.
Check the likely causes
1. The battery is depleted
Check the displayed charge before assuming the station has failed. Jackery’s guidance for USB output troubleshooting says a depleted battery stops output; recharge only as directed in your model’s manual. Jackery’s USB troubleshooting guidance also recommends checking the display and battery level.

2. A low-power cutoff stopped a small device
Some stations turn off an output when the connected device draws too little power. Jackery says its USB low-load detection can stop output for loads below 2 W, with a 12-hour default in the product guidance; certain app-enabled models may let users adjust it. Bluetooth earphones and smart bands are examples of devices that may draw too little to keep USB active. These figures describe Jackery guidance, not a universal power-station standard. 3. An idle timeout turned off AC output
An idle timeout is different from a low-power cutoff: it turns an output off after a period without a detected load. The EcoFlow E980 manual specifies that AC output turns off after 12 hours without load and notes that intermittent loads, such as refrigerators, may interact with timeout settings. For a device that must run continuously, check whether your model has an AC timeout setting in its app and monitor battery charge. Do not assume another model uses the E980 behavior. 4. The connected load triggered overload protection
An output can shut off if demand exceeds its rating. EcoFlow’s RIVER 3 Plus manual lists separate AC, DC, and USB-C overload errors and directs users to remove devices from the affected output. Compare both the appliance’s running wattage and its startup demand with the station’s output rating, and follow the appliance maker’s instructions. A higher surge rating is not permission to exceed the continuous output rating. If several devices are connected, their combined demand matters too.

5. Temperature protection stopped input or output
Power stations may stop charging or supplying power when too hot or too cold. Stop the load, keep vents unobstructed, and let the unit return to the operating range stated in its own manual. EcoFlow manuals advise moving a hot unit to a well-ventilated place away from heat, or moving a cold unit somewhere warmer. For the LiFePO4 product families covered in its September 1, 2026 guidance, Jackery lists discharge operation from -10°C to 45°C and charging from 0°C to 45°C. Those limits are specific to the named families, not a general range for all portable power stations. 6. A fault may be present
A persistent error, repeated shutdown with adequate charge and a compatible modest load, or a warning that will not clear calls for manufacturer support. Stop use if the unit smells burnt, is unusually hot, swollen, wet, physically damaged, or has a visibly damaged cable or port. EcoFlow advises stopping use and not charging or discharging if an error persists after troubleshooting; its RIVER 3 Plus manual says to stop use and contact customer service for unresolved errors. Jackery likewise recommends customer service if USB output stops despite sufficient battery and a load that is not below its low-power threshold. A safe troubleshooting sequence
- Identify the affected output. Check whether the whole unit is off or only AC, DC, USB, or USB-C. Note whether it happened at startup, after inactivity, or during operation.
- Read the display first. Record battery percentage, warning icons, and any error code. Consult the exact model’s manual or official app before clearing a warning or resetting the unit.
- Check charge and disconnect the triggering load. If the battery is depleted, recharge it according to the manual. Compare the appliance’s running and startup requirements with the station rating. Only if there is no warning or sign of damage, try a small, known-compatible load to see whether the output works.
- Review documented output settings. Look for eco mode, low-load cutoff, or AC idle timeout in the manual or app. Change a timeout only when the manufacturer documents the setting and it suits your use. Do not rely on a power station as the sole supply for medical equipment or another critical load without a suitable backup and guidance from the equipment maker.
- Check temperature and airflow. Stop the load, clear obstructions from vents, and let the unit return to its model-specific operating environment. Do not cool or heat it abruptly, cover vents, or continue operating through a protection warning.
- Contact the manufacturer if the problem persists. Stop using the unit for persistent errors, repeated unexplained shutdowns, signs of damage, or a damaged cable or port. Follow the manufacturer’s support and warranty instructions; do not open the case or attempt internal repairs.
