Discord Components V2 replaces the familiar embed-and-text message format with messages built from components. The switch can make sense when a bot’s interface is primarily a structured layout or interaction—but it is a one-way message-level choice: once IS_COMPONENTS_V2 is set, Discord does not let you remove it from that message, and traditional content and embeds are disabled.
That trade-off is the real reason to consider a migration. The API documentation explains how to build component-driven messages; it cannot establish why a particular bot’s developers chose a minimalist design. The case for that choice depends on what the bot actually needs to show and let people do.

What changes when a message uses Components V2?
Components V2 is an alternate message format, enabled by setting the IS_COMPONENTS_V2 flag. Discord describes the flag as indicating that a message contains components and disabling traditional content and embeds. In other words, it is not simply a new kind of embed: the message becomes component-driven.
Discord’s Message Resource defines the flag as 1 << 15. In the versioned discord.js 14.27.0 reference, the corresponding enum member is MessageFlags.IsComponentsV2, with the value 32768. The enum name and value here are specific to that discord.js version; use the naming available in the version your project actually uses.
When is a move away from embeds a good fit?
Choose based on the message’s purpose, not on a claim that one format is universally better. A standard message can use traditional content and embeds. A Components V2 message puts its content into components and can arrange them using layout components. If the bot’s interface is mostly a structured, component-based layout or needs interactive controls, the V2 model may fit. If the message depends on conventional text or embeds, keep it in the standard format.

How do you enable Components V2?
Set IS_COMPONENTS_V2 in the message’s flags when creating a message, executing a webhook, or sending an interaction response. The flag is bit 15; the discord.js 14.27.0 enum gives its value as 32768.
When editing an existing message to add the flag, Discord’s Message Resource says to reset incompatible fields to empty values. Once the flag is set, the message cannot be switched back by removing it.

What belongs in a V2 message?
Put the message’s presentation in the components array. Discord allows multiple components and supports nesting them in layout components. For interactive components, your application must handle the resulting interaction event; Discord says the app can respond, update the message, or show a modal.

What can break during migration?
Discord’s Message Resource says that a Components V2 message can only contain components. Supplying any of these incompatible fields with the flag causes a 400 BAD REQUEST response:

For an edit that adds the flag, clear incompatible fields as Discord specifies rather than sending the old payload unchanged. Review every create and edit path that produces the message, not just the initial send: retaining traditional fields in a later request can conflict with the V2 message rules.

Can you remove Components V2 after sending?
No. Discord says the flag cannot be removed from a message after it has been set. Treat enabling it as a durable decision for that message, rather than a reversible display setting. If the product needs both conventional embed messages and component-driven messages, decide which format each message should use before sending it.
What “minimalist bot” can—and cannot—mean
Components V2 provides a way to compose a message interface from components; it does not prescribe a minimalist visual style or prove that a bot needs fewer features. Minimalism is a product decision: show only the information and controls that serve the user’s task. Whether that is the right design for a specific bot depends on its actual functionality and audience, not on the flag alone.
