Some smaller LCD televisions are now facing a reported component-cost crossover: their video-and-audio processing board can cost more than the display panel. The comparison is model-specific, and the board includes memory and other parts—not just a processor. Industry reports link the squeeze partly to memory demand from AI infrastructure, but they do not show that every TV is affected or that retail prices will rise by a matching amount.
What the reported cost crossover actually means
Electronic Times reported on September 23, 2026, citing Omdia, that the mainboard used in some smaller LCD TVs—including 32-inch HD and 40–43-inch Full HD sets—was expected to cost more than the panel in the second half of 2026. The report’s comparison is about component costs in particular configurations, not a general claim that TV processors cost more than screens across the market. Electronic Times

For a 32-inch HD TV, the video-and-audio processing board reportedly grew from just over 10% of component costs in Q2 2025 to the high-40% range in Q3 2026. That is the board’s share of the set’s component costs, not its share of the retail price. The same report said a 55-inch UHD LCD TV mainboard—including DRAM, NAND flash and a Wi-Fi module—reached $118.20 in Q3 2026, compared with $33.90 a year earlier. Its cited lowest panel price was $116 and average panel price was $123. This 55-inch example is a related comparison, not evidence that every 55-inch model has the same parts cost. Electronic Times

The board-cost figures cover multiple components: DRAM, NAND flash, the main processor, display-driver ICs and power-management ICs; the 55-inch comparison also explicitly includes a Wi-Fi module. Calling the whole amount “processor cost” hides what is being compared. The reports describe a mainboard or processing-board cost, not an isolated chip price. Electronic Times
Why memory pressure is reaching TV makers
TV manufacturers buy memory alongside other components for their products. TrendForce’s January 2026 analysis said competition for memory from high-bandwidth memory (HBM) and server applications was squeezing supply for TV memory. The later Omdia figures, as relayed by Electronic Times, put mainstream DRAM at $25 and NAND flash at $30.50 in August 2026, reportedly 4.4 times and 8.9 times their respective year-earlier prices. These are reported market figures, not a per-TV memory bill. TrendForce Electronic Times
AI infrastructure is part of the explanation because it competes for memory supply, but it is not the only cost pressure on television production. TrendForce also pointed to panel and precious-metal costs. Its January 2026 analysis estimated that panels made up about 40–50% of overall TV manufacturing cost and forecast that DRAM’s share of TV bill-of-materials cost would rise from 2.5–3% to 6–7%. That DRAM share is a different measure from the processing board’s share in the reported 32-inch example. TrendForce

- If the TV has a blurred screen, black screen, white screen, image flickering, abnormal color and other faults, and it is judged that it is caused by the fault of the logic board, then replacing the logic board can effectively solve these problems, so that the TV can restore normal display function, so that users can continue to watch TV programs normally.
- Aging or damaged logic boards may cause problems such as reduced image clarity, insufficient contrast, and inaccurate color reproduction. Replacing the logic board can improve these conditions, improve the display quality of the image, make the picture clearer, more detailed, and more colorful, and bring users a better visual experience.
- If the TV has failures such as no response to boot, abnormal image, sound problem, crash, blurred screen, etc., and it is detected to be caused by the failure of the motherboard, replacing the motherboard can directly solve these problems Get your TV back up and running and save money on buying a new one.

Which TVs appear most exposed?
The clearest reported exposure is among smaller, lower-cost LCD models, including 32-inch HD and 40–43-inch Full HD sets. These sets have less room in their manufacturing cost structure to absorb a large rise in electronics costs, according to Electronic Times. The available figures do not establish a complete ranking across screen sizes, resolutions or display technologies, and they do not show that OLED or other premium sets are immune. Electronic Times

Will this make TVs more expensive?
Higher component costs can put pressure on manufacturers’ margins and retail pricing. TrendForce said new-model price increases were becoming more likely as production costs rose, while Electronic Times noted that smaller, lower-priced sets have less room to absorb the increases. Neither report quantifies a one-for-one pass-through to shoppers or establishes a universal retail price rise. A component-cost estimate is not a store price, and the reported crossover alone cannot predict what a particular TV will cost.

How to read claims about TV component costs
- Check what “processor” means. If a report gives a board cost, determine which memory, connectivity and power components are included before comparing it with a panel.
- Check the TV configuration. Screen size, resolution and display type matter; a finding for some smaller LCD models does not apply automatically to every television.
- Separate cost measures. Panel share of manufacturing cost, DRAM share of bill of materials, board share of component costs and retail price are not interchangeable figures.
- Look at the date and attribution. Late-2026 figures were reported through industry news coverage citing Omdia. DigiTimes published a related report on September 30, 2026, but its full article is subscription-restricted; TechRadar’s October 3 coverage attributes Omdia figures to DigiTimes. Treat exact late-2026 numbers as reported industry estimates, not independently audited invoices. DigiTimes TechRadar
