Registrations of Slovenia’s .si domains surged after President Donald Trump promoted “Super Intelligence” as a replacement term for artificial intelligence in U.S. government communications. The timing suggests the attention helped fuel demand, but available figures do not prove the executive order alone caused the jump. The order applies to specified U.S. executive-branch documents; it does not rename AI in law or require private companies to adopt “SI.”
What Trump’s order changes—and what it does not
Executive Order 14434, “Inaugurating the Era of Super Intelligence,” is dated September 29, 2026, and appeared in the Federal Register on October 2. It directs executive departments and agencies, “to the maximum extent permitted by law,” to use “Super Intelligence” and “SI” instead of “Artificial Intelligence” and “AI” in covered official correspondence, public communications, websites, reports, policy documents, and other non-statutory documents within the executive branch.
The order defines the terms for its implementation by reference to the existing statutory definition of artificial intelligence in 15 U.S.C. § 9401(3), subject to law. It also says previously issued regulations, presidential actions, contracts, grants, and other historical documents need not be changed. The Assistant to the President for Science and Technology is directed to submit proposed legislative language within 60 days; that direction is not itself a statutory terminology change.
In practical terms, the order sets terminology guidance for covered federal executive-branch communications. It does not compel private businesses, the public, or other governments to use the new wording.

Why Slovenia’s .si domain is drawing attention
The acronym “SI” in the order stands for “Super Intelligence.” The web address ending .si is Slovenia’s country-code top-level domain, not a domain created for the new phrase. But it is visually close to .ai, the familiar domain ending associated with artificial intelligence, and the announcement gave the letters “SI” fresh visibility.
Trump had floated the terminology in remarks to the United Nations General Assembly on September 22, 2026. Netcraft reported that he said the United States would call AI “super intelligence,” and described earlier social-media discussion about a possible rename. Domain registrations had begun rising around the time of that earlier discussion, before the executive order.
What the registration figures show
The figures point to an unusually sharp rise, but they come from different snapshots and measurement methods. They should not be added together or treated as one cumulative total.

Register.si’s figures are live counters, whereas Netcraft’s reported counts are dated observations. Because .si is not obliged to publish zone files, Netcraft says it used its own internet survey data for hourly registration figures. The two sources’ snapshots therefore need not be directly comparable. Register.si’s statistics page can show a later total, but any live count should be read with its access date.
Did the order cause the surge?
The rise followed Trump’s public comments and accelerated around the time of the executive order, making the announcement a plausible contributor. But the trend was already developing around the earlier social-media poll, and the available observations do not isolate the effect of the September 29 order from the speech, online discussion, or other factors.
Foreign Policy reported that ARNES spokesperson Klara Herman cautioned against attributing the entire increase to Trump’s comments, noting an existing upward trend while describing international discussion as coinciding with an exceptional additional surge. The sound conclusion is that the events and the registration jump were associated in time—not that the order alone has been proven to cause it.

How .si registration works
Register.si, Slovenia’s domain registry, says end users obtain names through registrars, which act as intermediaries between customers and the registry. Netcraft reports that registration is not restricted to people or organizations based in Slovenia.
- A requested name must be available and not reserved.
- Names must be between 2 and 63 characters in textual and/or binary representation and use permitted characters.
- Hyphens cannot appear at either end; two consecutive hyphens in the third and fourth positions are prohibited.
- Domains can be renewed for one to five years before entering a 30-day quarantine period after expiry.
- Register.si describes a 16-day cancellation or return window after registration, subject to conditions such as the domain not having been activated.
Register.si also provides a registry-lock process and an alternative domain-dispute-resolution route for parties asserting stronger rights. Its rules can change, so check the registry’s current policies before relying on a specific cancellation window or pursuing a dispute. The registry says registrants are responsible for keeping their details accurate and current; failure to maintain working email communication may lead to deletion.
The registry’s live statistics page displayed 92 registrars when accessed for the 2026 figures. Foreign Policy reported on September 28, 2026, that Register.si charged registrars €10 per registration at that time, but the price paid by a domain holder depends on the individual registrar. That dated registry charge is not a current retail-price quote.

Speculation, typo risk, and what has—and has not—been observed
Some of the activity appears speculative, but listings are not evidence of completed sales or profit. Netcraft found that about 52% of the .si domains it detected at Dynadot during the September 19 poll-to-September 22 UN-speech window were listed on Dynadot’s aftermarket as of September 23. That percentage describes Netcraft’s detected sample and those listings, not all .si registrations.
Netcraft’s October 1 report also identified 87 .com names combining recognized brands with “superintelligence,” each listed for $20,000. It said it had not seen evidence that those domains had transferred ownership. The asking prices therefore do not establish that the names sold or that the sellers made money.
There is a plausible typo concern: on QWERTY keyboards, “s” is next to “a,” so .si differs from .ai by one letter. That could create misdirected traffic or brand-confusion risks. However, Netcraft said it had not detected an increase in malicious content tied to the rename as of October 1, 2026. A potential risk should not be mistaken for evidence of an established phishing wave.

What businesses and domain holders should consider
A company does not automatically need a .si address because the acronym has become prominent. A defensive registration may make sense if a name is important to its audience, brand, or operations, but owning a domain does not guarantee protection from lookalikes or resolve a trademark dispute.
- Check whether the relevant .si name is available or reserved through a registrar that supports the extension.
- Compare first-year and renewal prices, registration terms, transfer and DNS support, account security, customer service, and any aftermarket or brokerage fees.
- Keep registrar account details and contact email current, and assess whether registry lock is useful for the domain.
- Review the registry’s dispute procedures if another party registers a name that raises a rights concern.
