That is a dated snapshot of reactions after the September 29, 2026 release—not a current count or proof that all players encountered the same problems.
What the early Steam reviews said
Tech4Gamers reported that the game received more than 2,000 negative Steam reviews over the three days after launch. The outlet said complaints commonly concerned performance and bugs, especially from players using AMD graphics cards; it also noted complaints from Nvidia users. At the time of its report, Tech4Gamers described the recent-review rating as “Mostly Positive.” These are the outlet’s period-specific figures and label, not a current Steam reading or an independently audited sample. Tech4Gamers’ report
PC Guide gave a separate launch-period snapshot: it reported more than 1,100 negative reviews on launch day, representing 32%, and a 35% negative share on September 30. Those counts and percentages cover different points in time and should not be added to the later three-day total. PC Guide’s report
Steam review history can also include feedback about the original game and periods of off-topic review activity. A listing’s aggregate sentiment therefore does not, by itself, isolate reactions to the Remastered release.

Which launch problems were reported?
AMD rendering complaints
PC Guide reported launch-day accounts of missing in-game models and black artifacts on Radeon hardware. It said a public driver was not immediately available when the update went live, then reported that AMD Adrenalin Edition 26.9.2 became available a few hours later. That sequence does not establish that the driver resolved every player’s issue. PC Guide’s launch coverage
NVIDIA Hairworks performance
GamesRadar reported that CD PROJEKT RED identified a separate performance issue related to NVIDIA Hairworks. The developer’s September 30 recommendation, as quoted by the outlet, was: “We’ve identified an issue related to NVIDIA Hairworks that may significantly affect performance. We recommend disabling that setting until this is addressed in a patch.” This points to a specific graphics feature, not a general diagnosis for every performance complaint. GamesRadar’s report

Xbox Play Anywhere PC release and lighting
Windows Central reported that Patch 5.00b restored unavailable DLSS in the Xbox Play Anywhere PC release and adjusted lighting, including interiors that appeared too dark, along with other parity adjustments. Its October 1 coverage also said the developer planned another hotfix for a problem preventing some players from saving game files. The patch addressed named issues; it should not be read as a blanket fix for every complaint across platforms. Windows Central’s coverage
In the same coverage, Windows Central reported glitchy lighting and poor performance during its check on one Xbox Ally X device. That is a report about one device, not a platform-wide benchmark. The available coverage here does not establish the status of patches released after October 1, 2026.

Do existing owners need to buy it again?
Not necessarily. CD PROJEKT RED says eligible owners can receive the upgrade at no extra cost on GOG, Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. For Nintendo Switch 2, the free upgrade applies to people who own the original Nintendo Switch version. The publisher lists Battle.net and the Microsoft Store as purchase options, with the Microsoft Store release designated as an Xbox Play Anywhere title. Check the entitlement for your platform and the version you own rather than assuming every edition qualifies.
The publisher says the Remastered release includes both expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, including for owners who previously had only the base game. The announcement describes the included content and eligible upgrade platforms; it does not remove the need to confirm account or platform-specific ownership requirements. How to interpret the review backlash
- Separate the time windows. Launch-day counts, a three-day count, and a percentage for September 30 are snapshots from different moments, not a single cumulative measure.
- Match the report to the platform and hardware. AMD rendering complaints, NVIDIA Hairworks performance reports, and the Xbox Play Anywhere PC DLSS issue describe distinct cases.
- Look for the exact symptom and version. Missing models, black artifacts, frame-rate problems, lighting, missing DLSS, and save failures were reported in different contexts; one fix should not be assumed to cover all of them.
- Do not treat anecdotes as a benchmark. Individual Steam comments and a single-device check can describe real experiences without establishing how common a problem is across all players.
The reports cited here do not provide controlled, platform-by-platform performance benchmarks or an independently verified review dataset. They support a clear conclusion about early launch friction, but not a ranking of platforms or a claim that every negative review had the same cause.
