The Sony ULT TOWER MAX is a large, AC-powered party speaker built for high-impact sound and event setups—not a portable speaker for all-day use away from an outlet. Sony identifies it as model SRS-ULT3000. Its listed weight is about 124 pounds, and its connections include RCA, XLR, USB and a microphone input. Pre-launch listening coverage describes bass-heavy sound, but it is not a substitute for a full independent review.
What the ULT TOWER MAX is—and what it is not
Sony’s U.S. support listing names the SRS-ULT3000 “ULT TOWER MAX.” It is the largest model in the new three-speaker ULT Tower lineup, according to launch coverage from Tom’s Guide. Do not confuse it with Sony’s older ULT TOWER 9, model SRS-ULT900: that is a different speaker with separate specifications and battery claims.
The Max’s scale points toward parties, DJ setups, karaoke and live-performance contexts rather than casual carry-around listening. Sony lists AC power at 120–240 V, 50/60 Hz. Its SRS-ULT3000 specification page does not state a built-in battery or unplugged playback time, so there is no basis in that listing to treat it as battery-powered. Check the power arrangement at your venue before planning an event.
Sony lists approximate dimensions of 21.02 × 41.81 × 18.58 inches and a weight of approximately 124.12 pounds. That is substantial enough to affect doorways, stairs, vehicle loading and storage. Tom’s Guide reports that the speaker has four handles and wheels, which may help with rolling but do not make it light to lift.

How the speaker is configured
Sony lists three front-facing woofers and one rear woofer, two midrange units, two front tweeters and two rear tweeters. The listed approximate driver sizes are 11.02 inches per woofer, 4.72 inches per midrange unit, 0.98 inches per front tweeter and 1.57 inches per rear tweeter. Sony gives a frequency range of 20 Hz–20,000 Hz at 44.1 kHz sampling; that specification alone does not establish how loud or balanced the speaker sounds in a room.
Sound options include ULT1, ULT2, Flat and Live modes, plus DSEE, sound-field optimization, horizontal/vertical sound tuning and a 10-band custom EQ. These controls offer ways to shape playback for different material or placement, but the specification list does not quantify their effect.

Inputs, wireless audio and linking
| Connection or feature | What Sony lists | Practical relevance |
|---|---|---|
| Analog audio | RCA input; XLR input and output | Useful options for wired playback and compatible audio equipment. Confirm the source’s connector and signal requirements before connecting. |
| Microphone | Microphone input | Relevant to karaoke or voice use. Sony’s cited specification does not identify a compatible microphone or confirm that one is included. |
| USB | USB-A and USB-C | Both port types are listed; the specification page alone does not establish every supported USB use or device. |
| Bluetooth | Bluetooth 5.3; SBC, AAC and LDAC codecs | Wireless playback is available, with codec support depending on the connected device and audio settings. |
| Speaker linking | Stereo pairing and Party Chain | Sony lists these features, but the cited listing does not specify compatible models or all linking limits. Check the current Help Guide for pairing details. |
Sony lists splash protection on the top surface. That wording is narrower than a general outdoor, rainproof or weatherproof rating; do not assume the whole speaker can be exposed to rain or wet conditions.
What early listening reports can—and cannot—tell you
Tom’s Guide reports a pre-launch listening session of just under an hour and characterizes the new lineup as bass-first, including the Max. TechRadar also reports a short hands-on demonstration and says further testing is needed. These are brief preview impressions, not a comprehensive measurement or long-term assessment. They support describing Sony’s intended emphasis on bass, but not declaring the Max objectively better than another party speaker.

TechRadar’s preview attributes Sony Product Manager Mike Somerset’s explanation of the circular woofer design to a desire to emphasize deep bass. That is the manufacturer’s design rationale, not independent proof of how the speaker performs in every room or at every volume.
ULT TOWER MAX versus ULT Tower 5 and 7
The Max belongs to a three-speaker lineup, but the evidence cited here does not provide a complete, like-for-like specification table for the Tower 5 and Tower 7. Tom’s Guide describes the Max as the lineup’s largest and most expensive model. A meaningful comparison should use current specifications for each exact model and region, rather than infer sound quality from size or price.
