Taylor Swift is on Spotify; the question refers mainly to a three-year period after her catalog was removed in 2014. Swift said she wanted listeners to recognize the value of music and felt Spotify’s access model at the time did not convey that value. If a particular song is missing from your Spotify account today, availability may depend on your country, rights-holder permissions, or account settings.
Why wasn’t Taylor Swift on Spotify?
Swift’s album 1989 was not available to stream when it was released in October 2014. On November 3, reports described the removal of her wider back catalog from Spotify. Contemporary coverage also noted that she had previously kept new albums, including Red, off streaming services at release. The Guardian’s November 2014 report and TIME’s report from the same date document the dispute.

Swift explained her position in a November 2014 interview with TIME. “I think there should be an inherent value placed on art. I didn’t see that happening, perception-wise, when I put my music on Spotify,” she said. She contrasted Spotify’s model with Beats Music and Rhapsody, where access to her albums required a premium package. Her stated concern was how the service’s access model communicated music’s value—not a specific, verified amount she personally received per stream. Read the TIME interview.

Yes. Her 2014 absence is historical, not a blanket description of her current relationship with Spotify. Individual tracks or albums may still be unavailable in some places because catalogs can change by country and depend on rights-holder permissions.

Spotify also announced on September 16, 2026, that all 58 of Swift’s official music videos were available to Premium subscribers in its beta markets, for viewing on TV, desktop, iOS, and Android. That announcement describes a beta-market feature at that time; it does not establish that every Spotify account or region has access to the videos today. See Spotify’s announcement.
Why can’t I find a Taylor Swift song on Spotify?
A missing track does not necessarily mean Swift’s catalog has been removed again. Spotify says music availability varies over time and between countries according to rights-holder permissions. A filter or the account you are signed into can also affect what you see.

- Check that you are signed into the Spotify account you intended to use.
- Look for filters that might hide the track or album in your search or library.
- Search for the song or album again. Spotify says it adds new content daily, so unavailable music may appear or reappear. Spotify’s missing music guidance explains these checks.
Who owns Taylor Swift’s recordings?
In May 2025, the Associated Press reported that Swift bought her catalog of recordings, originally released through Big Machine Records, from Shamrock Capital. The sale price was not disclosed. This later ownership development does not, by itself, establish availability of every recording in every country or explain the terms of any particular streaming deal.
