Shows disappear from streaming services mainly because the service’s license to show them has expired or changed. That does not mean a show has moved to another subscription app: it may be available elsewhere by subscription, ad-supported streaming, rental or purchase—or not be legally available right now. Search by exact title in a country-specific availability finder, then confirm the season and access type on the destination service.
Why streaming services remove shows
A streaming catalog is not a permanent library. When a service licenses a show from a studio or distributor, the agreement sets the scope and term of its streaming rights. Netflix says “some titles do leave Netflix because of licensing agreements.” As a license nears its end, Netflix says it considers whether the rights remain available, a title’s popularity in a region and the licensing cost. A renewal can keep a show in the catalog; without one, it may leave. Those factors do not establish why any particular show was removed unless the service or rights holder says so. Rights can cover only certain episodes or periods
Agreements can vary by show and may cover seasons or episodes differently. NBC says “Streaming rights can be limited by a variety of legal or business agreements that differ by show”; music clearances and syndication arrangements can affect availability. ABC iview likewise says licensing terms determine how long a program can remain online, and some episodes can disappear before a series is complete. A missing episode therefore does not necessarily mean the whole series has left. NBC Help Center: Why Do Some NBC Shows or Episodes Expire? ABC iview: Why do programs expire from ABC iview?
An “original” label is not a promise of permanent, worldwide access
Netflix says some Netflix Originals are unavailable in certain regions because the title predates its ability to acquire exclusive rights or another company holds regional rights. A platform-branded label alone does not prove that a service owns every right everywhere or can stream a show indefinitely. This explanation applies to Netflix’s stated circumstances; it should not be assumed to explain every original on every service. Why a show may be available in another country
Streaming rights are often territorial rather than worldwide. Netflix notes that “More than one studio or distributor may own the rights for a title.” A rights holder may not be selling rights in a particular territory, or another service may have exclusive rights there. Regional popularity can also factor into licensing decisions. As a result, a show’s availability in one country does not establish that it is available—or will become available—in yours. When checking across countries, set the country where you will actually watch and note when you checked. Catalogs change, and the same title may have different seasons or access options in different places.

How to find where a show is available now
- Search the exact title. Use a legal availability finder such as JustWatch or Reelgood. Include the season if you are looking for a particular one; similarly named titles can produce misleading matches.
- Set your country. Availability results depend on territory, so make sure the finder is set to the country where you will watch.
- Check the access type. Distinguish subscription streaming from free or ad-supported streaming, rental, purchase, and access through a TV provider. These are different offers, and a title available to rent is not necessarily included with a subscription.
- Confirm on the destination service. Open its own listing and verify the title, season, episodes, country and access type before subscribing or paying. Third-party results are useful leads, not guarantees: JustWatch says availability may change over time and that it does not guarantee the accuracy or reliability of results. Its terms describe the service as a way to find where titles can legally be streamed. JustWatch Terms of Use, section 2.1
- If no option appears, check again later. A finder may not show every change immediately. JustWatch says account watchlists can notify users of availability changes when notifications are enabled.
Reelgood describes its data as covering observed availability and historical catalog changes, distinguishing what is actually live on a service from what a contract says should be available. It reported coverage of more than 300 services globally across subscription, ad-supported and transactional video-on-demand in June 2026; this is Reelgood’s own coverage claim, not an independent audit or a guarantee that a listing is current. How to tell whether a show is leaving soon
Look for an expiry notice on the service that currently carries the show. Netflix says it gives viewers a heads-up when an unrenewed title is about to leave. NBC says it tries to alert viewers several days in advance with an “expiring soon” badge. ABC iview says expiry information is shown for programs scheduled for removal. Notice practices differ by platform, so the absence of a notice is not proof that a title will remain. Netflix Help Center: Why do TV shows and movies leave Netflix? ABC iview says that, in most instances, its programs are available for up to 30 days after broadcast, with longer periods for some programs. That timing is specific to ABC iview and should not be treated as a general streaming-industry rule. ABC iview: Why do programs expire from ABC iview?

No current listing in a finder does not prove a show has vanished everywhere; it means the finder is not showing an option for the country and access types searched. The title may not currently have a legal streaming, rental or purchase option there, or a listing may have changed. Check again later, and verify any new result with the service itself. There is no named show in this question, so availability for a particular title cannot be established without checking its exact name, country and date.
