If notifications are missing altogether, start with the app’s notification permission and category settings, then check whether it is in Deep sleeping status. First identify which symptom you have; the fixes differ.
First, tell silent notifications from missing notifications
Send a harmless test alert or wait for a normal one, then look in the notification shade. If it appears there without a sound, follow the silent-alert checks below. If it does not appear, use the missing-notification checks. Samsung treats these as separate problems and recommends checking different settings for each.

If notifications appear but make no sound
Check Sound mode and notification volume
- Open Settings > Sounds and vibration and check Sound mode. Select Sound if the device is set to Mute. Vibrate mode also does not play audible alerts.
- Open Settings > Sounds and vibration > Volume and raise Notifications. Galaxy devices have separate controls for notification, ringtone, media, and system volume, so raising media or ringtone volume may not fix silent notifications.

Check the affected app’s notification category
An app can be allowed to send notifications overall while a particular category is disabled or set differently. To expose category controls if you do not see them, open Settings > Notifications > Advanced settings and enable Manage notification categories for each app. Then return to the app’s notification settings, open the relevant category, and check that notifications are allowed and a sound is selected. Also review Alert and Show as pop-up if those controls are available.
Check Do Not Disturb
Open Settings > Notifications > Do not disturb. Turn it off briefly to see whether it is silencing the alert. If you rely on Do Not Disturb, keep it on and review its app exceptions and schedule instead. Its effect depends on the settings currently configured on your device.

Turn off Mute all sounds if it is enabled
Open Settings > Accessibility > Hearing enhancements and check Mute all sounds. Turn it off if enabled. Samsung says this control mutes notifications and other sounds and can prevent ordinary volume adjustment. Its Galaxy no-sound troubleshooting page explains the setting.
If notifications do not appear
Allow notifications for the app
Open Settings > Notifications > App notifications, select the app, and turn on Allow notifications. Check the available alert and display controls as well; a notification may be permitted but not displayed the way you expect.

Check permission for the relevant category
If category controls are hidden, enable Settings > Notifications > Advanced settings > Manage notification categories for each app. Select the app and inspect the category for the missing alert. Confirm that notifications are allowed and review its alert and pop-up options.
Check whether the app is Deep sleeping
Samsung warns that notifications may not appear while an app is in Deep sleeping status. Check the device’s sleeping-app settings for the affected app and allow notifications or remove it from Deep sleeping if you want its alerts.

Review Do Not Disturb exceptions and schedules
Open Settings > Notifications > Do not disturb. Check whether the mode is active, whether its schedule is running, and whether the app is permitted by its exceptions.

Use the scope of the problem to decide what to check next
- One app is affected: prioritize that app’s permission, category, sound, and Deep sleeping status.
- Several apps show alerts silently: check notification volume, Sound mode, Do Not Disturb, and Mute all sounds.
- Calls, media, or system sounds are also missing: the issue may extend beyond notification settings. Recheck Mute all sounds and the sound and volume controls, then restart the Galaxy device. Samsung lists temporary system errors as one possible cause of broader sound problems; a restart is a troubleshooting step, not proof of a hardware fault.
If sound remains missing after those checks and a restart, contact Samsung Support or a Samsung service center for model-specific help.
